I have recently relocated to Dubai and would like to select school for my 6 year old son. There are various curriculum schools here ICSE, IGCSE, IB, American schools. I am in a dilemma choosing the good school, need your suggestions and comments about my observations. I have no plans to relocate to india until his schooling completion. Indian ICSE/CBSE schools Pros: - have lot more rigor, breadth especially in science and maths - regular homeworks, tests, exams make them better prepared for competitive world - exposure to indian culture in studies and cocurricular Cons: - teaching methodology might tend to be rote oriented - focus is on exams so kids might have difficulty in applying concepts, overall personality development, life skills, confidence. - sorrounded by indian kids and teachers comparatively english fluency might not be so eloquent American/British schools IB or IGCSE Pros: - practical oriented, focus is on application of concepts - surrounded by native english kids and teachers so better fluency in english - exposure to multicultural environment right from beginning might lead to better life skills as a grown up - better exposure to cocurricular development and sports Cons: - low load on home works, tests and optional exams will lead to sudden shock during entrance exams after 12th like SAT or IIT - cultural issues of western world might have adjustments issues with us parents with eastern mindset
48 views but no response?! Would truly appreciate opinions from moms sending thier son or daughter to IGCSE/IB education in a British or American school. Regards Roopa
I would have chosen a British or American curriculum school for my child if I were sure that we will not relocate to India before he completes his schooling. I have chosen CBSE for my son because I think we will move back to India within few years. I think British or american curriculum develops a child's overall personality. They have less burden. They are more parctical in their approach. The kids get to know they can choose a wide variety of careers for themselves rather then just doctor and engineer. And who knows after 12 years what career would your child choose. May be he would persue his higher education in some western country and he may not be intersted in giving IIT exams.
Thank you so much kanchan. Yes, i also think that while british curriculum develops overall personality but there is an element of doubt that we may go back to India who knows?? In that case, it would be difficult for the child to adjust, there are IB schools in India but competition after that is something to think about.
