Naatu chakkarai is unpolished sugar crystals.

You must be aware sugarcane when heated to high temperature gives a brown residual product which is sweet. But to make it look super attractive it undergoes heavy processing so that it becomes white in color. Some sugar crystals are pure white and vv attractive. A lot of processing is done to give this white color to the otherwise brown sugar. Let me search and share a video with you where I saw how skin of cow is used in this processing of sugar and hence many don't still use sugar based sweets as neivaidhyam and offer Jaggery based offerings to God.
Unable to find that YouTube video immediately.
I use naatu sakkarai procured locally from a shop here. And no it's not the same as Jaggery.
Naatu sakkarai is called brown sugar and google will help you with the difference between the two.

BTW Jaggery is healthier than brown sugar .
Until the British era Indians didn't know anything about sugar and always used Jaggery. Thanks to them they thought us anything in white is attractive. I wouldn't be surprised if they even went on to claim its healthier than brown.:blush:

While nattu sakkarai is a local term for brown unprocessed sugar .
The reason why its mentioned as cane sugar is : In the US high fructose cane sugar (type of sugar) is also manufactured by corn starch.
Where as in India and other places the base product for sugar is sugar cane.
If it's mentioned as cane sugar and is unprocessed (brown in color) still it could be equivalent to naatu sakkarai. Just the Indian term naatu sakkarai not mentioned on it.

If you are looking to reduce obesity - to 1 glass lukewarm water add a spoon of triphala powder,1 spoon honey, mix and drink.

Dosage - start with 1 spoon in the morning, gradually have another dosage in the evening as well.

This will help provided you workout or do some sort of physical activity and portion size your food while keeping your dinner light.
