Dreaded ARD meeting over? How much I cry during those IEP meetings - can't do this, can't do that, won't do this. I need something just to get over those meetings.

 

Must be called differently in your school district. ARD committee meeting with you, sped staff, sped director, principal, child's BCBA, advocates if any etc. Basically discussing IEP goals, placements, agreeing on course of action, support etc.
Mine isn't in a public school but every time the therapist calls for a similar meeting to discuss an IEP I go bonkers. It's good to have these meetings, discuss what the gaps are etc but it makes me very very depressed. Initially, it was because we were in the wrong place and all of my suggestions were trashed by the BCBA who had this holier than thou attitude. Now it's mainly because an entire week spent in reviewing VB-MAPP and ABLLS focusing on deficits and then spending two hours discussing those makes me very upset. I've had other moms tell me the same thing. Hence asked.
The meeting in itself is good but it isn't good for moms involved focusing on what isn't there in the kid. Plus if the district is pushing back on services, I've heard ARDs get messy.
