Moving To Gta Area - Accomodation Advice

Hello,

We are moving from NY to Toronto area, not sure where to look for accommodation.

The city is huge! We won't have a car initially and are looking to rent until we like a place for buying. Someone suggested North York and Mississauga. Mississauga seems hard to get around without a car.

Any suggestions for neighborhoods close to the subway? Also, what is the typical waiting time for leasing an apartment? The process is very complicated in NY, so I am used to extensive wait times. Roughly what is the rent for a 1BR?
