    Dear friends,

My DD is 11 yrs old and since long she is suffering from insect bite allergy, Mosquitoes in general. If she gets bitten, she itches, scratches and it turns into a wound, and then before wound heals, she scratches it again, blood oozes out and then again heals, after many such cycles, when the wound finally heals and fades it leaves a black scar, almost her entire legs are covered with such scars, she is fair and the scars looks really bad on her, she cant wear shorts/skirts and feels embarrassed with her friends. There are no mosquitoes within the house, but in school and in the evenings while playing she gets bitten. So, cannot immediately put any cream because by the time she returns home, the damage is already done.

I request you all to share your ideas/experiences in preventing/treating these allergic bites and to erase the old scars. Please share if any of you went through similar problems with your kids.

If she has so many scars like that , try to consult a specialist.
she can wear full hands shirt and stocking or full length socks. She has to cover most of the area.
she is already 12, she can understand pros and cons of scratching the healing bite. explain her because of this scratching only scars are there. If my 5 year old DD understands this, your DD can too.

If the bite is painful, apply some coconut oil in the evenings all over the body. coconut oil relives the pain and scratching urge wont be there. Some kids do that as a habit more than the pain.

Take her to the doctor and get some gyan from doctor.

Thiruneer aka Vibhooti is a good anti itch powder. Just rub a pinch on the area gently and soothe . Works for my kids and me.
But best is prevention of course. So perhaps she can wear thick leggings when she is playing in the evenings?

Why don't you apply mosquito repellant just before she goes out/ to school?
Apply it on the exposed parts and dab some on her clothes so mosquito won't come near her.
    Also keep her nails short.

I make a thick paste of salt and water, say a pinch of salt with 4-5 drops of water, and apply at bitten area. No itching hence no scars. This also works on ant bites.

    Dear friends,

Just wanted to update you, we found a good Ayurveda doctor and he has given an internal medicine to bring down the urge to itch if something bites her so it would not lead to wounds and scars and also an external application cream to fade the old scars. We have also started using the "good night roll on" on clothes during morning before going to school and evening before going out to play. This way the situation is a bit in control.

Mix a small quantity of camphor in coconut oil to make a paste. Apply this on the bite-area. This will reduce the itching immediately.
