Then perhaps you are favouring matriarchy. There's no domination by anyone and there is importance given to consensus.

If you can imagine yourself living in a matriarchy vis a vis being married, what would be the perceived drawbacks (in comparison to marriage) do you think you will face living in a matriarchy?

Given the opportunity women can be just as destructive or worse than men. All humans are selfish, some more than others. Best to make everyone equal. This selfish trait is the reason no empire to date has withstood time. At first it appears like a great idea but there are many flaws.

If women are so caring why MIL torture DIL for dowry?
" why there are female psychopaths?
" why women will backstab one another?
" why mothers allow killing female fetuses?
" why are we so materialistic and don't donate to charity?
" why we go to IVF than adopt orphans?

Nandita, got to hand it to you - you quote one or two barely readable articles, add minimal own opinion, and yet thread thrives. Does make for some lightness in an otherwise mostly solemn reln forum, and also examine concepts and lifestyles we otherwise wouldn't.

Come now, that is putting words in her post.
Going out on a limb here and indulging in some wholesale generalization - the average married or marriageable age Indian woman, doesn't care that much about any 'archies, and simply wants peace in the house, reasonable happiness as a given in the marriage without having to fight it for day and night.

The tangible effect of patriarchy on the woman's life is only the joint family living or unreasonable expectations of son and DIL. Patriarchy results in kitchen-fights and two women (DIL/MIL) fighting for the affection of one man. Matriarchy will result in two men fighting for the TV remote, which channel on main TV, what size TV to buy, and whose car sits in the covered garage. The woman will be caught in between trying to pander to the egos of both men.

Circumstances make men and women what they are, as these are the unmistakable characterestics of patriarchy. It is for this very reason why we need a matriarchal society.
Go through Matriarchal Point of View.

What's happening in our society is all due to the patriarchal system enforced on us. Know more about matriarchy (Matriarchal Point of View) and you will understand what I mean. Just appreciate the idea with a free and open mind.

Matriarchies are not just a reversal of patriarchy, with women ruling over men – as the usual misinterpretation would have it. Matriarchies are mother-centered societies, they are based on maternal values: care-taking, nurturing, motherliness, which holds for everybody: for mothers and those who are not mothers, for women and men alike.

Matriarchal societies are consciously built upon these maternal values and motherly work, and this is why they are much more realistic than patriarchies. They are, on principle, need-oriented. Their precepts aim to meet everyone’s needs with the greatest benefit. So, in matriarchies, mothering – which originates as a biological fact – is transformed into a cultural model. This model is much more appropriate to the human condition than the way patriarchies conceptualise motherhood and use it to make women, and especially mothers, into slaves.
