you can also look on the newspaper websites...they carry rental listings as well. Frankfurt is pretty safe and you can choose the area according to your needs...for example if you want to be near the city center Westend, Nordend are convenient...these are a bit pricey but there are other areas which are equally nice a little further out (less expensive/more room). If you want to live in a bustling area then Bornheim or Sachsenhausen will be nice...Bornheim is tightly packed while Sachsenhausen has a little more room-and of course expensive. The only area which may not be very nice to live in (but convenient for grocery/ethnic shopping, etc) would be near the Main station (hauptbahnhof). You may see a lot of strip clubs or/and drug addicts...but I've always found it safe to walk around...they don't trouble passers by. A lot of people like to live in the suburbs...Langen, Offenbach (which has some very nice residential sections-you have to look watch for certain areas) Schwannheim and of course along the Taunus villages/towns. It depends on whether you want city living or a quiet life...even the city is very quiet
