Looking for guidance on adoption

Good to know that you have decided to adopt.Visit CARA site and register there.Or else you can find out nearest agency near home and register yourself for adoption.

While registering, you will have to give the following documentation for completing the registration.

1. Property deeds
2. Bank statement
3. LIC Certificate
4. Health certificate- A medical certificate saying that you and husband have no physical and mental ailments, and can raise a child in good health.
5. Another medical certificate stating that the couple (either wife or husband or both) cannot have a biological child
6. Affidavit/ letters of recommendation from two persons who know you well. They should certify that you and your husband are good citizens and they know you well.2 letters for each is mandatory.

7. Employment details of husband and wife.
8. A photo of couple together.
[FONT=&amp]9. Police certificate – A letter from the local station stating that there is no cases against you or your husband in the station.

Try to give all the documentation in one time. You will have to Pay Rs 200 or so and fill application form and they will give you a receipt for the same.Now the fees may be different.I paid Rs.200 long back.

[/FONT][FONT=&amp][FONT=&amp]First you file application with all documents. The agency will contact you when they find a baby matching for you.[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=&amp][FONT=&amp][FONT=&amp]Your waiting period will be between 1year to 2 year.

[/FONT] Now, they will match the child with you with the help of the photo given by you. Generally only one child is shown at a time. You can do all medical tests you want etc. If you like the child, fine, baby comes home. But, if you don't like the child, you will have to wait again till another baby is matched with you and your husband.They will not show lots of baby at a time and ask you to select.(That happens only in cinema)

Is it not possible in India to adopt a child if we already have a biological child?

Babies Home is St.Thomas Mount.This place is good from my experience. They were kind and dealt us with empathy.

You better visit them directly.You will have to speak to them directly,phone will not be much help.

Please start by registering on CARA. >Parents tab>Newly registering parents.

There have been a lot of changes in the adoption process in 2015, and In that website, you will find all the information needed to start the adoption process.

Now everything is online. There is hardly any need to visit any agency.

In case you need to get any doubts clarified, please visit the State Adoption Resource Agency of your state, the details of which you will get in the same state.

The documentation has been kept to a minimum, which you need to scan and upload after registering.

Wish to add a couple of more points after reading comments of other members:
1. There is no requirement to produce a medical certificate stating that you cannot have children. People already having children can also adopt.
2. Police certificate is no longer required as part of documentation.
3. Due to centralization of adoption process, the timeline is reduced to 1 year approimately.
4. At the time of matching, you will be shown photographs of upto 5 children online. All details including medical certificate of the child will be available online. You can reserve whichever child you think matches you. Once you complete the reservation, you will be shown the details of the child shelter in which the child is present. You can then go and conduct whatever medical tests you desire.
