    <HR style="COLOR: #ffffff; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=1>hi rogo,

    you are welcome....
You are absolutely true..these fairy tales leave an impact on the kids...

It is not said simply that children are like clay you can shape them the way you want (well atleast when they are growing...) until my kids understood the difference between the fairy and actual....i used to follow what they read.....and tell them.....

And i also balance the fairy with bitter truths..the recent addition to my kids book is "HOPE IS LIFE" written by one S.Shanmugam...it describes the challenges overcome by the physically handicapped....when i first bought the book..my husband was telling me i am trying to be harsh by giving this book to my kids.....
My view is that the people described in these stories have overcome all difficulties...so this is to always tell my children that we have been given everything..so we should be able to do more than these people..and not grumble all the time......

Radhika, I picked that book at seetharaman & Co two years back.there were very few books..maybe limited prints...
    let me find the publishers

    Shefali,

If your son is very young, you get a good collection of mahabharatha, ramayana and other stories at the ramakrishnamath books.. check out their website for ordering online. the books are very cheap too...

    Shanthi and all mommies,

My DD is 3.3yrs right now... Pls suggest some books for her... How abt Dr.Seuss and Tulika books (Large prints)? Can i purchase them online?

Right now, she has the below.
    1) Magic pot (Thats her fav,she already has the habit of packing it in her bag on her own, even for a 1/2hr car ride)!
    2) Bruno/Barney/Pepper series - Good manners based books
    3) Fairy tales - Jack and the beanstalk, thumbelina, cindrella, all girlie ones :)

Also for moms with teenagers, i wud strongly recommend this book -CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE TEENAGE SOUL. I love all the chicken soup series books.

Also, question on the finances part.
How much do you all allocate money everymonth on books? How often do you purchase them? Do children like to read books from old books mart? I am a SAHM and an ardent reader, currently am reading MANY LIVES, MANY MASTERS by Dr.Brian Weiss.
My DH is not a reader, i wud say, he didnt get the opportunity, nor was he introduced to books at his younger years... He mostly wud stick on to car magazines, Hindu and TV...

Any ideas, how to tell my DD that books are better than watching TV? Though my DH has reduced his TV time, he cant get rid of it... He grew up watching TV daily, out and out, so quite difficult for him :)

Two Books I enjoyed as a child: Children of the New Forest and recently, A Girl Named Disaster by Nancy Farmer. The latter is a bout a African tribal girl and her search for her father! I could not even get a copy. I borrowed it from a colleague's daughter. I am still on the lookout for a copy.
