As another year draws to its end and the birth of a new one is to commence, it has a way of surfacing so many emotions and memories, some joyful and some not so joyful. Its been a roller-coaster year for me and my family. My mother relapsed and has been fighting cancer, but I am beside her in her fight and she knows that 'we' are fighting it out. Then my marriage happened in between, all in peculiar circumstances, now, I am so excited to know from my wife this week, that she is pregnant and I have been floating around thrilled all week and in abundance. Life is beautiful because of the surprises, happiness and the shocks we receive time and again. When we are happy we take it for granted that we deserved it. But it is the unexpected shocks of pain and suffering that invokes philosophical thoughts and questioning of faith arises. But, faith and prayer gives us the strength and energy to face the situation with guts and courage. Love and understanding take us a long way in our day to day life. "Give like a small sun: touch the world with shafts of your light; bring smiles into bloom like flowers." The quote above is relevant only when there is a need for light, smiles and simple joy. This logically means the existence of pain, the flip side of happiness. We are human and like happiness, pain is part of the journey. I, for one, have gained so much and lost a lot too. I have realised, that if we ever allow ourselves to love anyone or anything for that matter, pain is an integral part of the process because some day we may, probably will, lose that person, place or thing to which we have become attached, either physically, mentally, circumstantially or emotionally. Of course, the price of NOT - not loving, not seeking, not becoming involved, is a much deeper and emptier pain that strips away at ones soul and destroys ones spirit. So, here is to those in pain, I pray you connect with your Self (Divine or God or whatever it is), that is bigger than anything, miracles await you. Advance Happy New Year wishes to all! May this new year bring to you all that you wished for.
