Take dark coloured vegetables like Beetroot, carrot and Palak. Poha(Aval) is good source of iron. Include dates in your diet, don't go overboard with dates as it may increase sugar level. If you have iron vessels at home try to use iron vessels like kadai, Tawa or Spoon(karandi) for cooking your food. Your food will naturally get rich in iron.

Try to take Vitamin C and then Iron. Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron better. Also don't have any diary products (milk or curd) atleast for an hour after taking Iron. Diary products reduces iron absorbtion, so we should always maintain one -two hours gap.

Radha has prett much covered everything I wanted to say, in addition try and refrain from cofee/tea and all caffeinated drinks(decaffeinated is fine) to allow effective absorption of iron. Even chocolates/fizzy drinks like coke, etc have caffeine as well.
