what are the absolutely necessary stuff that I should prepare ahead of time

    Hi.
I am into my 29th week and need your suggestions about what are the absolutely necessary things that I should buy, wash, sterilize and prepare before the baby arrives.I am in USA and I want to make those arrangements by March because I am the only one who has to do shopping, arranging, cleaning and setting up things for the baby.I am afraid by mid March ,if I start developing bigger tummy and start feeling less active ,I won't be able to do all those arrangements. Please give a list and I would really appreciate if you guys can suggest the usual brand names of products that you all have used.I checked others links for baby stuff in this forum and online as well. there are so many thing...I can't buy all of those. Please need some real time opinions for experienced moms with hands-on experience.
what I can remember right now
1)a few sets of newborn onesie.(any idea how many sets I should buy and what kind of apparel are most comfortable for them).or do they wear something else immediately after coming home.I checked some dresses, onesie sets at kohls , jcpenny etc., but thinking about their tiny mini soft skin, I am confused what is best for them ? also thinking about some socks, bips, caps.

    2) baby detergent/fabric softner(what brand is recommended?)
3)bottles and nipples(please let me know what kind and where will we find them and how many)
4)a ceremic bowl for boiling bottles and nipples for sterilization.
4)crib(again which brand and do I have to assemble it by myself)
5)car seat( do I have to buy newborn carseat or I can directly buy convertible carseat which may be used for newborns uotil 1 year). Please which brand?
    6) stroller(which brand? )
    7)swing(is it really necessary?)
8)formula( should I buy before delivery, if so ,then is semilac powder good and how many bottles)
    9) some diapers and wipers
10)baby bathing towel (or as per my mom, clen old soft cotton saree pieces, is it really a good idea?)
11)is there any oil cloth kind of thing in USA?
    12)blanket
13)is it safe and okay to buy above mentioned things from Walmart such as apparel, cribs, car seat , stroller etc , as prices are lower at walmart?
please help me decide which are really required and I'll start arranging thereafter.

Re: what are the absolutely necessary stuff that I should prepare ahead of time

1)a few sets of newborn onesie
what part of the country are you in? I will recommend side snap shirt/pant sets - check to see if you can get them on sale at target, kohls or carters. these are the best for newborns - maybe 7-8 sets to begin with. they are also called footed pajama sets at carters.

Carter's 3 Piece Bring Me Home Outfit - Pink Multi Dot - Buy at Diapers.com - Fast Free Shipping

the onesies at kohls by just born are also good. get only the ones with the zips, not the buttons they take forever to open and close. maybe 5-6 of these.

socks, mittens, caps are must. carters makes good ones. or try the gerber brand from walmart/target. 4-5 pairs each.

    2) baby detergent/fabric softner(what brand is recommended?) - I just use the all free and clear. no fabric softener.

3)bottles and nipples - depends on the baby. I like born free and dr. browns. buy 1 of each, see which one your baby likes best and then buy 7 more.

4)a ceremic bowl for boiling bottles and nipples for sterilization. - not needed. get a steam sterilizer. it's around 60 bucks but well worth it. dont get the microwave sterilizer.

4)crib(again which brand and do I have to assemble it by myself) - any one will do. ikea has good ones.

5)car seat( do I have to buy newborn carseat or I can directly buy convertible carseat which may be used for newborns uotil 1 year). Please which brand?

dont get convertible yet. get the newborn one which makes easier to take baby around. my "baby" is still using his newborn carseat at 18 months. we have the chicco keyfit.

    6) stroller(which brand? ) we got the chicco keyfit travel system. register at babies r us.com and they will send you 10% 15% off coupons. use it to buy the travel system.

7)swing(is it really necessary?) yes! it was the only thing that always worked to put my son to sleep the 1st 6 months. the fisher price model can be plugged into the wall, so you save on batteries.

8)formula( should I buy before delivery, if so ,then is semilac powder good and how many bottles) - dont buy before. the hospital will give you enough to last a week atleast. buy a couple different ones and see which one your kid likes before buying in bulk.

    9) some diapers and wipers. pampers swaddlers are the best for newborns, wipes - costco brand is good.

10)baby bathing towel (or as per my mom, clen old soft cotton saree pieces, is it really a good idea?) - target. carters sell good ones with hoods.

11)is there any oil cloth kind of thing in USA? - you mean water proof pads? you can find them at babies r us in all different sizes.

12)blanket - target has good ones.

13)is it safe and okay to buy above mentioned things from Walmart such as apparel, cribs, car seat , stroller etc , as prices are lower at walmart?

    most definitely yes!!

please help me decide which are really required and I'll start arranging thereafter.[/quote]
