    Dear Balajee
Thats a magnanimous thing to say ! Thank you !

It was not really so serious. In my growing up years, "summa iru, unakkonnum theriyathu " was avery common comment heard in many households. It was not so much a review of the other person's mental faculties as merely a battle cry of male dominance.

None in my family has ever made it seem like Knowing Nothing is some shameful cross to bear. It was just another goodnatured comment that really meant nothing !

I have never suffered from inferioritycomplex or loss of selfworth because of that constantly heard phrase !

    Dear Aruna,
Time changes everything doesnt it ! Your sister finally has her sweet revenge !
I also feel, people who have long been babied, are quicker to pick up skills and information, as if to make up for lost time !
It makes me so happy to hear you say you like my posts. Thank you so much , Aruna

    Dear Shyamala,
If you analyse, you will find that most cases of " you dont know anything" have a solid base in love and affection. It feels nice , I think, to feel protective towards others.just like we are indulgent towards very young children.
Hahaha !thats a nice irony, forcing a smartphone on you and not teaching you its basics ! Selfhelp should be best help, though the inscrutable instruction manuals are enough to wipe out all education one has ever had in language and reasoning !
Feels so good to have same -feathered company !
    Thankyou , Shyamala.

    Dear Viji,
"Summa iru, unakkonnum theriyathu " seems to have been a fairly common comment thrown around in many households in those days. Maybe it was an unconscious way to keep women in check ! I dont hear it so much these days.

How nice that people of your puguntha veedu were so understanding and accomodating ! If there are people like that to support one, we can conquer anything !
What ? You learnt cooking from your husband ? Thats abs. wonderful and unique !
Thank you for sharing your sweet memories, Viji.
Happy to hear you like what I write .

    Dear Jayasala
It was wonderful to read about the experiences of a "Know Nothing " who could "Do Everything" ! Living in a large extended family is really life enriching .

In some families they used words like mandookam , abhishtu , bekku , thiruttukottu etc . quite routinely, without any bad intentions, as though they were some kind of pet names !

I totally agree that having a high sounding educational qualification does not make one Intelligent. They can still be Know Nothings in ordinary affairs. Many of them cant think out of the box and get stuck in situations they were not educated to handle. It takes innate , unlearnt intelligence to handle life.

Knowing Nothing , spiritually, is still a far way off in my case. In the meanwhile, like you, I have also learnt not to mind being called a Knower of Nothing.
Thank you for sharing those hearwarming memories, Jayasala.

    Dear Vishwa,
Cent percent in agreement with you that protective love should not become crippling love .
The world was much different when I was a child, I could get away with being a pampered KnowNothing. But these days, it would be cruel to bring up children that way.
Am sure your son will be forever grateful for the wonderful upbringing he has had.

I remember a funny incident. Till I was married, I had not stepped into a bank ( believe me , its true ! ) so i knew next to nothing about crediting cash into accounts . Early in our marriage, hubby gave me some cash to be credited to account and left for work. I, with my usual sumg self confidence, went to the bank, saw the counter with the signboard CASH and pushed the roll of currency across, reciting the account number ......to a totally stunned teller !
Needless to say , for a whole month after that incident I was given a crash course in Banking procedures at home with lots of archanai for loss of hubby's image in the bank !

People who came from humble backgrounds do empathise inspite of sitting in AC rooms. Even those who were born rich can be philanthropic. But in this particular instance, our dear Cheeniya was talking of something different, it was about Death and how to a person whose daily life is a grind, philosophising about death would be the last thing on mind.
I can confidently say that I know Cheeniya too well to accuse him of being judgemental.

Thank you for dropping by, Vishwa.

    Dear Sri,
Now that you mention it , I recall with much amusement, that sweet word Parabrahmam , often heard in our ancestral home ! At least it has a nice philosophic touch, unlike the rude bekku !

As though it was not enough to be treated as a Know Nothing by elders when young, looks like one is fated to be called the same by the younger generation too, as one gets older ! The pattam is a lifetime achievement award i think !

Thank you for writing in, Sri.

    Dear Manju
The 'Nothing' that I know is a lot more than the 'Nothing' you know! I agree that most of us know Nothing but some of us know more 'Nothing' than others and I am proud to say that I may lead the pack on any clear day. It was probably looking at me that someone came out with the profound truth that 'A specialist is a person who knows more and more about less and less until he knows everything about Nothing!' Yes I know so much of everything about nothing that whenever anyone mentions about 'Nothing', I stir to life like a war horse at the sound of a bugle!

I am surprised that you so proudly parade your knowledge about Nothing as if you are the accredited authority on Nothing in IL! How could you have missed this proud Rambler who has been peddling his knowledge about 'Nothing' in his Senile Ramblings for over seven long years? Many people have remarked to me that the frontiers of Nothing that I have reached will take them a few lives to reach. Every time I post a thread, my excited fans whisper among themselves how I have excelled myself this time in my knowledge of Nothing.

I have not come here to claim my supremacy in Nothing because my well known humility prevents me from doing it. But it does become necessary for me at times to safeguard my position as numero uno in the area of Nothing because there is greater competition here to usurp this position of mine now than ever before!

    Sri
