Kasuthi embroidery on kameez

This is my first attempt in kasuthi embroidery.i have done it on aida cloth. I would like to know where in chennai I can get calico net, to do kasuthi on other materials. Raja stores don't have it.

Hi revathy ,

Lovely kasuti work . I do kasuti too and I have done this on different materials as and when I have got the materials . Here are some suggestions you might find useful

for calico net there used to be a shop in Pondy bazaar somewhere next to Naiduhall that used to sell calico net , or try Godown street and ask for mosquito net fabric in cotton . I got a pink colored one a couple of years back . There was a shop in devraj mudali street too that used to sell duster cloth floor wipes etc who used to sell this fabric . I dont remember the name of the shop but it is towards Nsc bose road next to an old temple and on the 1st floor. . You may have to search but I think you will get it in that area.
Also try using the thin canvas (2 strand ) variety that you use for cross stitch by attaching on fabric and then pulling out . I find it good too when you want bigger motifs .
And lastly if you want you can also trace the motif using embroidery carbon , that is worked on a square grid paper and embroider over it . Just be careful in tracing and you will be able to get even stitches.
