    As you may know I am helping my 70-something young Dad with his health issues. We are based in USA.

    He's been getting itching since beginning of this year and visited this Dermatologist twice. She is in a private practice in a section of her home, part of conservative orthodox community in USA. And she's been helpful to me in past years.

    In the summer when itching got out of control, we called office and she replied that Dad take over the counter. Itching is now significantly reduced, but was still causing discomfort, esp at night.

    Several weeks later we called again and said that over-the-counter didn't eliminate the itch, and she called in a prescription to the pharmacy.

    Now it's been two months since Dad has been taking the prescription, there is no improvement.

    Been trying to reach Dermatologist for a solution since early October. Plus Dad is scared of over-taking the medication, because there is no indication as to how long it should be taken (if you take some medications for too long period, it causes other damages, we've had this experience)

    Doctor was out for two weeks in October and returned last week. Every time I try to call her receptionist (she only has one), keeps saying she is catching up since she was out of office for two weeks.

    I can understand if it's a day or two after she returned, but now it's been a week. The receptionist said she gave Dermatologist our message. Plus the Doctor is in only 3 days a week (I believe she is a religious teacher otherwise)

    Is the Dermatologist trying to avoid us, or is she really busy.

    Today I plan to call and ask if she has email address where I can send quick message.

    Just kinda bummed because my Dad has been working with her, it's a more down-to-Earth atmosphere, and she's really nice.

    Anyone face this type of frustration?

    She's probably just busy, especially if she came back from vacation. But if your father just has a rash or allergy a good PCP might be able to diagnose it. It might be easier getting an appointment with them rather than a specialist. And if it's really bothering him a walk-in clinic or urgent care might be able to help.

    @Rakhii @MalStrom

    Thank you for your replies. Finally I was able to get Dermatologist on the phone and she called in another prescription. I guess she must have been super-busy. Plus I think she goes overseas.

    Walk in clinic is a great idea ..... closest one is an hour away, yet that is something to consider (God-forbid we should even need it though!)
