I bought IP on last weekend from Kohl's. I haven't talked about buying idly stand, inner pots for my new IP, yet. I am sure, my DH will open one of the cupboards to show me, find something that fits. Men, why cann't he understand! I want a new set of pots/pans! Already, I have 3-pressure cookers and 4th one, joining the club. Today, time spent on watching IP videos and water test was done. IP looks big, occupies lot of counter space. I don't want to switch back/forth between regular cooker and IP. Wonder, I should wait to buy complete IP accessory sets (retire the old cookers), and announce an opening ceremony on July 4th. Now, I am on online shopping for stainless steel Indian cooking accessories! I am like a 'kid on candy store'.....searching for IP inner sets.
The inserts you have for your regular pressure cookers, as long as they fit inside the IP should work just fine. I did not buy anything IP specific, except a tall trivet for when I do pot-in-pot or have rasam or sambar in the main pot and want to keep rice on the top. So really see if you absolutely need those accessories!!
I cook only few times a month, buy tons of veg to cook and then, freeze. Last few weekends, I had to work. Next cooking project will be on July 4th weekend! All 4-pressure cooker will be used like a torpedo launch, full speed ahead! I am sure, IP will be the winner!
Last Saturday I made Masala Vazhakkai (Green cooking plaintain) in the Instapot. Ingredients: Vazhakkai 3 - peeled and cut in roundels. Soak these in salted turmeric water. Else they will turn dark. Oil for frying. for the masala. Cooking oil 2 tsp Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp Cloves - 2 Cinnamon stick - small piece - 3 cm Dry Red chillies - 3 Black pepper - 10 Onion- 1 small - roughly chopped Tomato - chopped 1/2 to 3/4 cup Ginger - 1 inch roughly chopped Garlic - 2 pods Grated coconut - 2 tsp Chopped Coriander leaves - a little. Turmeric powder - a dash Salt - to taste Method Prepare masala first. Place on heat, a small frying pan. Add the 2 tsp oil given for masala Add the coriander seeds, the cloves, cinnamon. When the coriander is slightly dark, add the red chillies and tge black pepper. Saute a few seconds. Add the onions and roast till it turns slightly translucent. Add the tomatoes and salt and fry till tomato softens. Add ginger pieces and garlic, followed by coconut and cilantro. Switch off stove and let the mixture cool. Once cool, grind the mixture to fine paste. Masala is ready. *** Smear the inner pot bottom and about one inch on the sides with oil. Drain the cut plantain roundels. Smear the masala paste till all the pieces are well covered. Rinse the mixie jar with a little water to get all the masala out and pour this in the inner pot. Place the paste-covered plantains in the inner pot. Close lid, close vent, Cook on manual for 3 minutes. After pressure is fully released take the Vazhakkai pieces with a flat spatula and fry on a flat pan or tawa pouring a little oil on the sides if needed. There my be watery masala left on the inner pot. Pour it over the plantains and fry till water evaporates. Flip the pieces and fry till they turn brown. Keep longer and pour more oil if crispier finish is desired. This recipe is not a quickie. Some effort and time is needed. But the mild flavour of masala with the plantain starch is a fabulous combo. The dish will be a hit.
Hi IP experts, Any inputs on the new IP ultra? Do you think the new features would be useful? Hardly 9 reviews on amazon so far and am now desperate to buy one, added confusion now with the choices.. 6 in 1, 9 in 1 or the ultra! Sorry to post this in this thread..
Hi @GoneGirl You've come to the right place. I have the DUO 7 in 1 pressure cooker. This one has Yogurt maker. The 6 in 1 doe snot have yogurt maker. The DUO is the most recommended. i do not know much about the 9 in 1 or the Ultra.
This girl on video does a good job on showing how to sequence adding the various masAla ingredients for dry-roasting in order to make a masAla paste. Very often we tend to toss everything together in the roasting step and see varying results in the way the masAla turns out. It is quite feasible to make a larger lot of this paste, store it in the fridge/freezer, and use it more than once. This Mixed vegetable Saagu recipe is adaptable to the instantpot.
Any reviews of the 3 Qt Instant Pot? Even if you haven't used it, please share any opinion about using an IP of smaller size. Amazon.com: Instant Pot Duo Mini 3 Qt 7-in-1 Multi- Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, Rice Cooker, 12 Cups Rice (Cooked): Kitchen & Dining I can't understand why amazon mixes up reviews of similar products. So difficult to wade through the many reviews and figure out which is for the 3 Qt one. They do this for all products that come in different size, flavor, styles! Might be it looks good to have that many reviews, but after a few minutes an otherwise interested buyer will just go away from the page.
