    Hi

Could anybody tell how to make idlies from idly rava. In chennai we use idlyrice and urad dal in 5:1 ratio. But now I am in vizag. Here I rarely get idly rice. Could anyone advice how to use idly rava? If urad dal only to be grinded and in which ratio to be mixed dal batter and rava?

My son loves the idlies made up of this idly rava!

    Regards

Hi selvi normally we use 3:1 ratio, if urad daal grinds in wet grinder. But here we don't have wet grinders, so we use mixie for grinding n the ratio is 2:1, add little baking shoda also

It is 2 cups idli rava with one cup udad dal .....you cannot make it instant you need to get it fermented if it gets fermented you can use but I think you are speaking of instant rava idly.......if so then the rava used is not idly rava but bombay rava to make it you dont need udad dal at all, you can make it in 1/2hr time check Chitvishs rava idly recipe.......Good Luck:thumbsup

    Hi..
    Here is my recipe.

Wash and soak 1 cup of whole urad dal (without the skin) overnight. Wash 2 cups idli rava and soak overnight. To wash the rava, add water to the rava and keep aside for 5 mins, the rava will settle down, then discard the water, add water again and keep aside for 5 mins till the rava settles to the bottom.Repeat this 6 times. Then soak the idli rava overnight in a seperate bowl.

Grind the urad dal into a fluffy and a smooth paste.Discard the water from the idli rava, squeeze the water from idli rava and add to the urad dal batter, add little eno fruit salt, salt and mix well.Keep in a warm place and allow it to ferment for 8 hours. The fermented batter can be used to make idlies.
