I agree with Kalyani and other's reviews.. My MIL used to make rotis with this in India and it was okay for sometime. Later the heat was very low, became very hard to eat and sometimes like rubber, you have to pull and tear for having a bite. No doubt, it is a good exercise for teeth :). The rotis have to be consumed immediately. The dough has to be very very soft, and since we have to add too much water/oil , it will be tough to make it manually with the same dough as it will be sticky. Check with your mom how she prepares and try it by yourself for a few days under her supervision.

I have been using the same brand (Tortilla roti maker) for the last 3 1/2 yrs and still going strong.:thumbsup
I get good rotis and some imp pointers are
    1. the dough should be kneaded in a consistent manner to get good results.
    2. flip the rotis atleast 2-3 times on the maker for uniform heating on both sides.

3.Do not use the rotimaker for more than 1 hour continously.

It's a useful buy and makes life easy provided one knows how to use it correctly and it comes only with practice.
Patience and perseverance is the thumb rule here.:):)

Sorry for a very late Reply

I have ViJay brand of roti maker
got that for 1.5K in chennai

I wud say thats the best investment i ever did
    i just love the product

First make the dough atleast 30mins prior making chappathis
pregheat the roti maker until the red light is goen.. thats teh indication that the roti maker is the ready to use

make a ball out of the dough and flatten it
place the dough in the corner of the roti maker (as shown in my blog) and press it for a second
    then when done
remove and turn the other side adn cook till tehre are bubbles.. then close teh roti with the lid so that teh chappathi puffs up

the chappathis stay soft for even a day
but preheating the food is better!!

I have replied in detail in so many threads discussing about ROTI MAKER, still for my friends sake onceagain i peeped in.i too havw TORTILA ROTI MAKER and using it for last 4 -5 yrs........AND ITS VERY VERY VERY GOOD........it is the best investment SO FAR WHATEVER I HAVE DID......its my saviour.....its my everything....COOKING LIFE BECOME VERY EASYYYY WITH ROTI MAKER....

Better call for customer care, ask him to do the WHOLE DEMO - LIVE DEMO IS ALWAYS BEST, SO THAT YOU CAN NOTE HOW FLOUR SHLD BE ETC ETC...feel free to ask him whatever doubts you have , right from mixing flour and how he stores it in dabba ( yes, it is very imp, dont keep roti outisde once it is cooked , put that imm'ly in air tight container) .....FOLLOW HIM VERY BLINDLY....and you also try in the same way...i bet you it will never go wrong....

You can make Parathas, dosa , toast, poli.....i have tried everything and all turned out extremely good

Any doubts, pls feel free to ask here

Chapathis prpard with roti maker will be very very very SOFT and it also retain its softness even for 2 days
