Can we make idlis without using idli rice? Can we make soft idlis with normal regular rice..what would be the proportionate? can anyone guide me...
hi divya, thanks for the reply...with normal regular rice, we cannot make idli...but if smewhere idli rice or idli rawa is not available, then how people are going to make idli.....
hi pallavi, it is possible to use normal rice for idlis, but they wont be so soft as boiled rice idlis. wash the normal rice and dry it on a cloth preferably under sun. then make rava of it in mixie. use it for making idly normally.
Hi Pallavik , In my house we won't buy idli rice separately , we use the normal rice ( Not boiled rice) for making idli, dosa appam etc., and the idlis are good too..... For 2 cups of rice- half cup urad dal... then during grinding we add a little bit of cooked rice... My MIL says this makes the idlis soft.
i always prepare with normal rice.. 3 : 1 shud be the ratio of rice and urad dal.. soak in water seprately.. grind them seperately .. soak few seeds of fenugreek also.. grind and then mix add salt and leave it for 5 hrs.. add soda bi carbonate (a pinch).. make idlis
Thanks a lot to all of you to give your valuable comments...if we are going to use normal rice, then which type of rice we should use? i.e whether it should be thick dark half boiled rice .....If anyone can show it in pics, then that would be great....
