How To Ask For Privacy

    Hello IL people. I have been living with my wife's mom and sis for more than a year now. It has been smooth sailing and I have adjusted well but at times my MIL and SIL expect me to be a part of their routine like going to the market, watching some TV shows, etc. when I want to be left alone.
    Is it wrong on my part to say no to them for such small stuff? If not, how can I politely say no without coming across as assertive?

    Wait what ? Your MIL and SIL want you watch Ekta kapoor serials with them ?? Kkyunki Damaad bhi kabhi beta Tha ?

    I would not watch a Ekta kapoor serial even if my MIL put a gun to my head , so no don’t feel bad about not giving them company.

    You don’t have to be excited about getting a good deal on bhindis or karela or saree petticoats either. So don’t worry about offending them at all.

    If I could I would offer you a title of damaad e shahenshah for living with MIL and SIL.

    @Dreamer Well coming to the problem ! You can tell them tat you aren’t interested in watching soaps in a polite manner ! Instead you can take them to movies so even they feel tat you are spending some time with them !

    You actually summed up the problem well. They expect me to watch shows and indulge in conversation about them or shopping.
    Looking at the replies here, I think I should just firmly say no and excuse myself to my room.

    I have not mentioned to her as I think I can directly speak with MIL and SIL. So that's what i am going to do.
