As far as glass bottles are concerned I empty the bottles and dip them in water whole night and next morning the stickers come out without any mark and then I wash them with soap and water...for steel I have heard if you warm them the sticker will come out easily though I have not tried it....

You can try peanut butter or cooking oil to remove the stickers. If you are in USA you can use Dissolvit or GooGone.

I agree with fashion. I usually soak it in warm water then use a plastic knife to scrape it off.

A new blade will remove the sticker completely.

If there is any glue left over, nail polish remover removes it.

I heat the inside of the utensil where the sticker is placed with a cigarette lighter. You need to do it patiently ( and without burning your fingers) for few minutes and the sticker comes off easily. There will be some sticky glue which can be removed with the nail polish remover..
