How Did You/do You Deal With Rumours Within Your Marriage?

By "Rumours within your marriage" do you mean people in your extended family talking about other people within your extended family ?

When television had very limited programming, and people lived in joint families, and telephone services were awful to none, people had to rely on some manner of entertainment. So they played a parlour (spelled it the same as rumour, the English way) game called "Rumour or Rumor".

A person would create a snippet of interesting news and pass it on another within the family. That person would find another to pass it on. However, in the transit, the news would get modified, juggled, corrupted, or grow legs too. This would go on for a bit, everyone holding on to something that they thought was a great secret only known to three people - source, self, and confidante. Eventually the rumour might come back to the source and it might either be hilarious, or cause a huge political problem for many within the extended family. This game is also called "Chinese Whispers"

Now that we have electronic communication, TV, and various other timpass things, we never play this game.

 

Treat rumour as rumour, no matter what.

The moment the carrier understands that you won't entertain anything without evidence they will either try to bring reliable evidence or stop rumouring.

 

Is it general rumors or rumors about your marriage??

 

If you are not a celebrity don't worry about rumors. Generally people have very short term memory. Especially money and success has more power than rumors .
