Dear all find the recepie for horse gram rasam..
250grams black ulavalu / horse gram
5grams cumin seeds
1bunch curry leaves
3number green chilies
5grams mustard seeds
2number red chilies
to taste salt
25grams tamarind, soaked in hot water
Wash ulavalu well and soak in water for 6 hours. Add 3 cups of water and pressure cook them for 30-40 minutes. Separate the water from the seeds and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, fry red chilies, mustard and cumin seeds, curry leaves for 1 minute and add tamarind water.
Then add the boiled water, salt, green chilies and boil for 15-20 minutes.
Now blend the boiled seeds (ulavalu) to a fine paste and add to the tamarind water. Mix well and cook until a thick gravy is formed.
Remove from heat and serve with idlis or rice.
you elaborated well the importance of kollu. it is 100% true reg kollu and its benefits.
This is what my vaithiyar (siddha doctor) asked me to do :-
1 tablespoon kollu powder. 1 tablespoon small zeera(cummin seed). Boil in 4 glass of water to 1 glass. Drink in empty stomach every morning and evening.
I drink it for 1 month..it was very effective but i got purging 2-3 times in a day. so i stop it !
you will see the result in two weeks, i lost almost 3 kgs in 2 weeks.
u took kollu powder for 1 month,n in 2 weeks you lost 3kgs........so did you lost more 3 kgs in remaining 2 weeks or only 3 kgs in month.........you did only this or was doing diet n exercise also.........
asking so much questions .........actually i have told my DH to bring it frm India so......:idea
i have been searching for kollu here in US for the past 6 months...
but dint get it anywhere ! I really want that. Atleast for that, I want to plan a trip to India !
I get horse gram here in Chicago in Indian grocery stores, you can find it in your Indian grocery stores I guess..

total weight lost of that month was 5 kgs. first 2 weeks i took the kollu in the morning and evening... no exercise, and no diet (but i don't take any fried foods).
next 2 weeks, i took kollu once in a day (sometimes in the morning & sometimes in the evening)... same no exercise and no diet, i lost another 2 kgs.
i can't take the purging, so i stop it and i start my diet and exercise..
once in a while during weekends (if i'm at home), then i will take kollu now...sometimes do kollu rasam and drink it.
