It is a high-maintenance part of your body, which is sensitive to the slightest changes in your health, emotions and environment. You binge on chocolates and your face becomes a mass of pimples; you don’t get a good night’s sleep and dark circles appear under your eyes; you’re out in the sun a lot and you get burnt or develop freckles. The list is endless. So let’s take a look at skin care regimes for different kinds of skin.
    [/font][font=arial,helvetica]Dry skin [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]Use a rich cream cleanser instead of soap and water. Avoid astringents, as they will further dry your skin. Instead, use a mild skin toner after cleansing your skin. Apply a good moisturizing lotion in the day, before sleeping, before applying make-up and after removing make-up. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]Once a week, wash your face with the juice of a melon. You can give yourself a weekly facial by mixing a yolk of an egg with two tablespoons of milk and half a tablespoon of honey. Apply this on your face and leave it on for about fifteen minutes. Then wash with lukewarm water. If you’re out in the sun a lot, milk mixed with melted butter helps soften the dry skin. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]Lanolin, apple juice, peach juice, sour cream and crushed almonds are also helpful for dry skin.

    [font=arial,helvetica]Oily skin [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]You may not believe it, but oily skin actually has some advantages. As a result of excess lubrication, wrinkles do not form prematurely and skin is not much affected by wind and sunlight. However, oily skin is a magnet for dirt and grime and thus a good and regular cleansing regime is a must. If oily skin is not cleaned thoroughly and regularly, the dirt will clog the pores in the skin and blackheads will appear. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]People with oily skin should wash their faces with medicated soap and water. The use of astringents is advised as they have a tightening and drying effect on the skin. Buttermilk or beaten egg whites also have a drying and tightening effect. Parsley juice mixed with honey and a few drops of lemon or ginger is good for an oily skin. This mixture controls the secretion of oil. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]Fuller’s earth (Multani mitti), oatmeal, almond paste, or lime juice or vinegar mixed with water are excellent cleansers. Steaming opens up the clogged pores and you can push out blackheads and whiteheads and prevent pimples. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]Avoid rich fried foods and load up on green vegetables instead. Take two tablespoons of lecithin granules (a by-product of soyabeans) daily. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]After washing your face, soak a towel in hot water and press it to your face. Repeat this process two or three times. Next wet the towel in ice-cold water and repeat the process two or three times to close enlarged pores. [/font]

    [font=arial,helvetica]Cucumber, parsley, cabbage, tomato, yoghurt and lemon are natural aids for an oily skin. [/font]

    A pack made using spinach leaves and a few drops of lemon juice is a wonderful natural bleach. Leave it on for about 20 minutes before washing off. Those with dry skin can combine raw pureed spinach with a spoon of fresh cream, mix well and apply on face. Leave it for about half an hour and rinse with cold water.

    Peach

    Those with dry skin can apply a mashed ripe peach with some fresh cream. Wash it off after about 15 minutes. You can also use it as a tightening mask. Whip one ripe peach and an egg white in a blender till it forms a smooth paste. Gently pat all over face, leave on for 30 minutes, rinse with cool water.

    Aloe vera

    While several wax eloquent about aloe vera juice, did you know that applying the herb after waxing helps soothe, moisturise and cool skin? The miracle plant is also known to be a great conditioner for your hair. Halve quantity of shampoo, add twice the amount of aloe vera gel, mix well and use like a regular shampoo.

    Avocado

    If you enjoy eating avocado and have dry skin, rub the inside of the fruit’s skin over your cleansed face, after eating it. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and rinse using warm water. You can get rid of dull skin and age spots by mixing a mashed avocado with lemon juice and yogurt. Apply on hands, leave for 15 minutes, then rinse.

    Honey

    This golden yellow syrup is a natural antiseptic that treats burns, sunburn and cuts. It also acts as a refreshing lotion. Mix milk (or cream) and honey in a pan. Remove from heat when honey melts. When cool enough to tolerate, apply on face and body. Let it stand for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

    Orange

    To close facial pores, apply Vitamin C-rich orange juice with very little lemon juice on your face. Orange-vinegar splash is a great astringent that restores acidity. Mix orange peel and vinegar and let it stand for a week. Remove orange peel and add 1/2 cup water. Splash on face after washing with water.

    Tea

    Green tea tightens and calms skin, while its antioxidants fight ageing. Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 1 tea bag in a glass or bowl, steep for 3 minutes. Strain into a bottle, let it cool and apply on skin with a cotton ball. Apply this toner before using moisturiser. Also apply wet tea bags to blister-prone areas of your feet.

    Yoghurt

    To treat blemished skin, mix three tablespoons of finely crushed almonds with 1/2 cup yogurt. Massage on your face, rinse with cool water after 15 minutes. You can also blend yoghurt with Fuller’s earth to prepare a mud pack. Pat on face with gentle, upward strokes, let it dry for about 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

    Hair Treatment


    • If your hair falls then heat castor oil and apply it on the hairs repeatedly to stop the hair falling.
    • If the hair is lost due to sickness then rub onion juice on the head to grow it again.
    • Take equal quantities of amla, black sesame, bhangro and brahmi, grind it to make a powder. By eating this powder in the morning and evening the white hairs becomes black.
    • Mix sugar and lemon juice together and wash hairs with it to cure lice and dandruffs.
    • Soak grams in butter milk, when the gram becomes soft at that time mash it on the head and wash the head after two hours to cure lice and dandruffs.
    • By putting sesame flower, gokhru and rock salt either in coconut oil or in honey and by applying its paste avoids baldness.
    • Boil a handful of mehendi leaves in 1/4th share of coconut oil. By applying that oil on the head rubbing it nicely results in long and black hairs.
    • Lice is killed by applying onion juice on the head.
    • By grinding neem leaves in water, and by washing hairs with that water cures dandruffs.
    • When the hair falls at that time by applying goralu mud or its solution mixing it in lemon juice on the hairs avoids falling of the hairs.
    • By eating cucumber without peeling it gives shine on the hairs.
    • Put amla powder in warm water, boil it and wash hairs with it to make the hairs beautiful and shiny.
    • If the hairs are falling then, put 200 gm dry fenugreek seeds in 500 gm of pure coconut oil and keep it in the sun for 7 days. After that, filter that oil and fill it in a glass bottle. By rubbing this oil in the morning and evening on the hairs stops falling of hairs, hairs becomes black and results in new growth of hairs.

    To lend a rich burgundy tint to hair___________
    Henna regularly for about once a week. Take 200gms of henna and add one cup of amla and tea water to it. Mix together and leave in an iron vessel overnight. Apply it to your hair the next day, leave on for at least two hours and wash off. When dry, apply amla hair oil. This will help darken the hair dramatically in 3 to 4 applications.


    To treat tangled hair____________________________________
    Apply 5 tbs of honey. Leave on for 5 mins. and wash off.


    For smooth & straight hair___________________________________
    Oil your hair twice a week with castor and coconut oil mixed together and apply the following pack twice a week. Beat 2 eggs, add a tsp. of honey, two tsp. each of amla, reetha and fenugreek powder to it. Mix well and apply on scalp and hair and leave on for 30 mins. Wash off with a shampoo formulated for dry and undernourished hair.


    To treat hard hair___________________________________________
    Mix castor and coconut oil and massage into the roots gently followed with a turban therapy. To soften hair further, you can apply mayonnaise to the hair once a week. Leave on for 30 mins and wash off with a mild herbal shampoo.


    To treat rough hair with split ends_______________
    Pamper hair regularly with oil massages and turban therapy. Apply henna at least once a week. Take care of your diet.

    OR

    Massage half a tsp each of honey and almond hair oil into the scalp gently and wrap your hair in a shower cap. Leave on for at least half an hour and wash off. Do this treatment for twice a week for a month.


    To treat dull hair_____________________________________________
    Apply the juice of an orange mixed with vitamin E capsule. Wash off within 10 mins for soft and silky hair.


    To stop graying_________________________________________
    Start to massage your hair with brahmi amla hair oil. Take 50gms. Of amla powder and burn it in an iron vessel until it turns to ash. Add 2 lit. of water and simmer until the liquid turns to half the the quantity. Strain and apply on the scalp and hair and leave overnight. This treatment should be done 3 times a week.


    Improve hair growth_________________________________________
    Massage your hair with warm coconut and almond oil and alternatively with castor oil and almond oil. Apply henna once every 10 days.


    For dark, soft and healthy hair_____________________________
    Oil your hair with brahmi based hair oil followed with a hot towel wrap. This will help soften and darken your hair as well as strengthen it. Henna your hair, as it will help darken your hair.


    Oily hair, dull with no bounce or volume________________________
    Mix one and half cup of water with half cup of vinegar, one lemon juice and one egg. Add to it barley/malt powder. Make a thick paste and apply on hair. Keep it for half an hour and wash off . Apply every alternative day till the problem persists. Later apply twice a week.


    Dry and damaged hair, not bright and silky and uncontrollable____
    Make a mixture of 2 tsp of coconut paste, 3tsp of mustard oil and one egg and apply on hair. After half an hour wash off.

    Dandruff and eruptions on the hair base________________________
    2 tsp of fenugreek paste, 1 tsp of vinegar, 1tsp of ginger juice mix to form a paste. Apply in the hair roots. Keep it for 15 mins. and wash off.


    Hair______________________________________
    For thick, strong glossy hair the roots must be firm and scalp healthy and well nourished. Nutrients are key to healthy hair, but to be effective they must reach the roots. A balanced diet rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially iron, sulphur, zinc, B complex and Vitamin C as well as essential fatty acids is essential for healthy hair.


    To treat rough hair ______________________________________
    Mix castor oil, lavender oil and coconut oil in equal portions. Massage lightly on the roots of hair. Keep for two hours and rinse with any herbal shampoo.

    Use as little hair colour and dyes as possible as this hampers the natural health of your hair.

    Use less hair driers as this makes hair rough and raises the problem of split ends.

    Don't comb wet hair. To remove tangles use a comb with thick tooth. Don't dry hair under scorching sun as this also makes hair dull.

    Make a solution with one cup of milk and 1 egg. Keep for 5 minutes and rinse off.

    Oil your hair with sesame seed oil twice a week and wash off with a shampoo especially formulated for dry hair. After applying the oil you can also massage in 5 tbs of honey on the scalp and hair and wash off after 20 mins. This can be done once a week and is a very effective form of softening the hair naturally.


    Make this hair pack to get soft hair____________________________
    In one cup of coconut milk add two spoon of refined flour, three spoon of castor oil, one spoon of shikakai and amla powder and 1 spoon of honey. Mix well and rub on your scalp for 20 minutes. Wash with reetha water.


    Treatment for Dandruff ________________________
    Dandruff is a scalp infection. If not treated in time it might affect your skin very soon. Wash your comb regularly with antiseptic lotions, especially whenever you wash your hair. Don't lend your comb to any one else.

    Massage hot olive oil or coconut oil on scalp before going to bed. In the morning make a solution of lime juices and salt. Keep for 1 hr and then shampoo it.

    Massage warm camphor added coconut oil. Wash off after 1 hr.

    Make a hair pack with sour curd, 1 juice of lime, and juice of neem leaves. Keep the pack for 40 minutes. It can be used twice a week.


    To stop hair fall ________________________
    Soak fullers earth in milk cream overnight. Add zafran or mace to it. Coat hair with this pack for 2-3 hrs. shampoo it.
    Massage iodine solutions on scalp. On the next morning wash off with reetha soaked
    water .

    Juice of ½ a lime along with coconut milk if massaged on the scalp and hair and kept for 2-3 hrs you will get wonderful result. After 2-3 hrs wash off with a herbal shampoo.


    To treat split-ends ________________________
    Lack of nutrition leads to split ends.
    Regularly visit a parlors to trim the hair end.

    Back comb hair regularly for 10 minutes both in evening and night for active hair circulation. Bend your head forward and start combing from back to front.

    Include protein in your diet. Drink at least 12 glasses of water.

    Soak 100 gms of ritha, 50 gm of shikakai and 50 gms of amla overnight. Boil the solution next day. The watery portion is used as the substitute of shampoo.


    To treat premature graying_____________________________
    Boil a handful of celery leaves in water. When it gets cold add juice of half a lemon and wash hair with it.


    For Silky hair________________________________________________
    Massage your hair with a quarter cup full of cream milk mixed with 2 tsp honey. Leave on for 20 mins and wash off for a shiny mane.


    For soft and shiny hair and also for straightening your hair_______
    Oil your hair with olive oil and apply the following pack. Liquidise 3 bananas, 2tsp of glycerin and 5 tsp of honey. Mix with the white of an egg and massage well into the hair and scalp. Leave on for 40-45 mins. and shampoo. Oil hair on alternate days for a week. After that oil it twice a week and apply the pack weekly.

    Tangled Hair Treatment
    Apply five tablespoons of honey on tangled hair.Leave on for five-ten minutes and then, Wash off.

    Oily Hair Remedy
    Regularly wash hair with Multani Mitti. This will not only reduce the oil, but the hair will feel much cleaner and full-bodied as well.Difference can be seen after two-three applications.



    Glowing Skin!
    Take 1/2 tbspn of turmeric powder, 5 tbspns of sandalwood powder, 1 tbspn of almond oil and mix with milk.
    Apply on face, neck and the back. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes and wash off.


    Baby's Dry Hair and Skin Massage
    Most babies need a massage at least every alternate day.
    Massage your little one(s) with a UBTAN (homemade massage pack) made by mixing five tablespoons of Almond paste, three tablespoons of Almond Oil, two tablespoons of fresh Cream and a little Wheat Flour.
    Done regularly, you will notice a difference within a week.



    Healthy Nails
    Rub Lemon halves on your nails everyday if they have changed in color.

    Dark Eye Circles?
    Drink atleast <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /><st1:time w:st="on" hour="11" minute="50">ten to twelve</st1:time> glasses of water everyday.Have a blood test done for your haemoglobin level and check with your doctor for extra vitamins and proper diet routine.



    Banana Hand & Foot Cream
    Dry hands and feet will become smooth and soft overnight if you mix:
    Bananas, Honey, Lemon juice, Natural Margarine
    Smear on hands and wear white gloves to bed. Wash off in the morning.
    For dry feet, smear the mixture on and wear heavy socks to bed, wash off in the morning.


    Tooth Care
    1) Mash some fresh strawberries and use as you would any other "tooth paste"
    2) Using fresh sage leaves, rub over the teeth to clean and whiten.

    To treat pimples_______________________________
    Wipe your skin with rose and camphor water tonic. Follow it up by rubbing tomato halves on the affected areas. This will reduce the oiliness and help shrink open pores. Also apply a mask of sandalwood paste to which add a piece of camphor. Drink 10-12 glasses of water everyday.



    To remove suntan______________________________________
    Take 4 tsp of sandalwood powder, five tbls of coconut and two tsp of almond oil. Mix together and apply on the exposed areas.



    To help remove tan in arms___________________________________
    Massage with sandalwood based cream and apply a paste of multani mitti (fullers earth) and sandalwood powder mixed together.



    To treat dull skin____________________________________________
    Mix 2 tsp of whole-wheat flour with milk and scrub all over the face until the milk is absorbed. Wash off with cold water.



    Anti-wrinkle free face pack for dry skin________________________
    One tsp of honey, 2 drops of sandalwood oil and two tsp of milk. Mix together and massage this into your skin. Wipe off with a moist cotton wool pad. Apply egg white that has been whipped thoroughly. Let it dry completely and wash off with chilled water to which add 2 drops of geranium oil. This tightens skin, makes it soft and fragrant too.



    To treat cracked lips and to keep it soft________________________
    Apply pure coconut oil on your lips, add a tsp of honey. Massage your lips with this several times a day.



    To treat scaly legs___________________________________________
    Take 5 tbls of sea salt and mix with milk. Scrub on the skin vigorously and wash off. It acts as a powerful cleanser and exfoliater.



    Natural blood purifier________________________________________
    Boil 10 neem leaves every day and drink this water. Keep the skin completely oil free. Add a tsp of camphor powder to 100ml of rose water. Wipe face with this tonic several times a day.



    To treat marks_________________________________________
    Take a cup of both red and white sandal wood powder and half cup of oatmeal. Mix with a little milk and rose water and scrub all over face and body, 3times a week until mark fades.



    For a glowing skin___________________________
    It is essential to clean, tone and moisturize skin daily. Take a tsp of milk and honey and massage face with it, followed with an application of a tsp of almond paste and a tsp of sandalwood paste mixed together with the juice of a lemon and some mashed papaya. Scrub your face well with it in slow circular motions; this will cleanse face and glow.



    OR
    Eat healthy food and add the cucumber and banana to your daily diet. Drink at least 2 glasses of milk everyday. Make the following mask.
    Take 2 tsp of sandal wood paste, 2tsp of gram flour, a pinch of camphor powder, 3 tsp of almond paste, 10 strands of saffron, the white of an egg and some milk to mix it all into a smooth paste. Apply all over the skin and leave on for 20 mins. Dab with cold milk and scrub off gently. This should be used 3 times a week.



    To remove dark circles___________________________________
    Cause: lack of sleep, tension, inadequate diet, lack of water, internal weakness, cause dark circles under the eyes. If any of the causes may be the reason then get down to treating it. Most of our skin problems are internal and require treating from within before we even begin other skin treatments.
    Massage the area with almond and coconut oil daily and wipe off after 30 mins. Make the following eye pack. Take one tsp of almond paste, half a tsp of sandalwood paste, half a tsp of grated potato, 10 drops of lemon juice and half a tsp of fresh cream. Mix together and apply around your eyes. Let dry completely and wash off gently. This should be done on alternate days.
    OR
    Start to massage the area around the eyes with 2 to 5 drops of coconut oil every day before going to bed. Wipe off with some moist cotton wool after 20 mins. Drink 10-12 glasses of water. Wipe skin daily with rose water and glycerin mixed together. Apply a face pack of sandalwood powder with rosewater once a week.
