I hope this is the right place to post this query.

How do you clean drains? I mean not the main ones. The drain in bath tub and kitchen sink, for example. I have tried reaching the inner tube with brush, pipe cleaner but it's not very effective. Is there any simple solution that can be made at home (instead of the pungent drain cleaner that is used to clear any blocks)?

If the exhaust is in good condition then the smell shoud not be so much.
I usually have professional carpet cleaners clean all the carpets atleast once a year. so the maintenance part is easier.

    Hai Latha!

Regarding cleaning the kitchen drain, put some ice cubes in it with few drops of liquid dishwashing soap and switch on the garbage disposer. The garbage disposer crushes the ice and thus with soap removes all the greasy stuff.

You can pore some few drops of vinegar too. My maintenance guy gave this suggestion.
And I have been following it eversince and found it very effective.

    Bye

    Hi Gayathri,

I don't think our drain has a garbage disposer. By drain i mean the mouth of the sink basin (into which the water goes)... it's connected to the drain by a tube... hope my description is clear:(

    AC/Usha,

am yet to try it...it was recommended by a friend who has used it. I believe it works like this - just hold it down the drain and by twisting, all the hair comes out (she said something like a bottle brush). Yes it is availabel in Lowes and I think there should be a couple of varities.
