    hi friends ,

I am hypothyroid and on 75mcg thyroxine daily.I recently got tested for thyroid antibodies : TPO and ATA. They were quite high.
My doc in India has prescribed thyrowell for the same.
Does anyone has any experience on it? Does it affect fertility. I am damn scared.
    help!!

I too was diagnosed with very high thyroid antibodies last year since I have hypothyroidism. I was referred to see an Endocrinologist and as per him, the high number of antibodies have no clinical significance. However, it is extremely important to keep TSH in range...ideally between 1 and 2, if you are ttc.

If you want, you can also get yourself tested for gluten sensitivity. Many times, people with high thyroid antibodies are allergic to gluten. However, in my case, it was negative. If you are tested positive for gluten sensitivity, you may try gluten free diet and it should bring your antibodies number down....just a suggestion.

It would be best if you see an Endocrinologist and follow his/her advice.

    Good luck!

Also, as per my endocrinologist, high thyroid antibodies confirms that you have Hashimoto's. He also said that over time, their number may drop. You can google and get more info on it.

Don't worry....just maintain an active lifestyle and do take your thyroid medication regularly.

    Dear Indianwife2000 ,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Actually I recently consulted an IVF specialist in India and she says I need to first bring down my thyroid antibodies. That made me worry a bit.
Is it really possible to bring down thyroid antibodies?

If there is a way to bring the number down, then I don't know. My endocrinologist here in US said that the numbers go down on their own over time, but there is no medicine as such. As per him, high numbers have no impact on pregnancy. He said it is very critical to have TSH in range.

Why don't you ask your doctor on how to bring the numbers down? If they are asking you to do something, then they should provide a solution too. If there is any medicine or any other way, that can bring the number down, do let me know too:).

Best of luck for your IVF!!!

Thank u Indianwife2000 for ur reply. Yeah they have prescribed a medicine for that. It's thyrowell. But my Endocrinologist here in HK says that unfortunately there is no medicine for it. That has left me confused.

    Sairam dear ,

I was also tested for thyroid antibodies and hashimoto syndrome and touchwood the levels were under control . Before knowing the result I checked with the doctor what if it's high and he said it don't have any direct impact with conception but people with elevated values should continue taking medicine for thyroid almost through out their life . But he said if TSH is under control then this will automatically come down too .

So just follow the medication and leave the fear.

    Good luck
