Help: regarding washing machine

We have recently moved to Bangalore, scouting for a washing machine. kindly help me choose a washing machine, regarding

1) capacity
2) front loading vs top loading
3) brands.

PS: we are a couple. The flat water is salty.

1. 6 kg would be sufficient.

Buy fiber drum not the stainless steel one as it will become rusty.

It depends upon the volume of clothes you wash each time. Semi automatic are available from lower capacity say 4 or 4.5 kg also whereas automatic are available from 5.5 kg only, i think. Again brand depends upon semi or fully automatic and your spending power.

We had Whirlpool (semi automatic) with agitator of 5.5 kg capacity, which was really good. In case of fully automatic, I have heard that front loading is better in terms of wash and low water usage, but which cost a bit more than top loading. My choice would be : Top loading - Whirlpool, Front loading - IFB

Got an LG basic pulsator model(6.5 kg), as i got a good discount over the MRP.

kishoremummy, i bought plastic/fibre drum model only.

Mahanu, thanks for the detailed reply. In another forum, a person advised against agitator model, because it is too rough on clothes. Therefore i skipped whirlpool.
