Help Me With Palestrina Embroidery Stitch

I wish to do Palestrina Embroidery Border on Phulkari Stole

And this lady even doubles the embroidery floss before embroidering,

No Matter how hard I try, I cannot get the Palestrina stitch to be that perfect golden braid.

Instead, I get the below results.

Top embroidery is single strand bottom embroidery is double strand. HELP, what am I doing wrong!!!!
