Hi All, I tried giving her prune juice, banana but no good result. Still she is having pain to poop and crying always.. Please, suggest me any other good tip.. What foods should we need to avoid her during this time? Thanks, Seetha
How old is your baby? What kind of solids does she eat? Idli and sabudana is a no-no when constipated. You could try prune paste too. Also see the doctor if her pain does not stop.
Hi OP Did you talk to your ped about it? How old is your baby? I heard prune juice and other P- fruits( pears, peaches, plums) are very good for constipation and seems prune juice can be mixed with milk also. You can try yogurt. Gripe water helps in stomach relief. Is it first time or regularly constipated? If regular, you do need to talk to your doc. It could be formula or foods.
Thanks for your reply.. She is now 22 months old. she used to have morning fruits, dhal with rice during lunch time. Evening 1 cup of whole milk and night sometimes idli or dosa..
Bananas can make the condition worse. Fruits and veggies contain fiber, also brown rice/whole wheat. The challenge is that the child may be afraid of pooping, tries to hold back and making things even worse. There are some OTC medicines available for babies. Talk to your ped and try those. It is important that the child would not have pains. After a while you should be able to cope with only a high fiber diet + lot of fluids.
Thanks for your reply CrayoNess. Sure.. I will try to give her more fiber content fruits and veggies and also whole wheat..
To relieve the initial contisipation you can give Miralax for a day or two until the bowel is clear. On a regular basis you can add a spoon of 'benefiber' powder. It is very effective to avoid future contisipation. It makes the stools soft and even if the child wants to hold back ...it can't and thus prevents contisipation. I was facing this issue with my daughter and after using 'benefiber' she stopped contisipating.
