Hats off to these people of integrity

Today I read something which made me feel so proud. Sachin Tendulkar has refused a Bunglow at Lutyens’s Delhi, and 24 hours 40 people Z Security, while he is attending the Rajya Sabha in Delhi.

He says he would rather the bunglow be given to someone needy and worthy(each bunglow is worth around a few hundred crores, in real estate prices, ), that he will stay in a hotel while he is attending the RS, at his own expense. That he does not want the security too.

I now remember when Sachin came to the limelight in the early ninties, the Govt of Maharastra announced that they will give him a flat free of charge.Close to my mother’s house, on the Worli Sea Face is a building called “ Sportsfield”, where sportsmen have been given free flats, two on each floor, some of the players being Ravi Shastri, Wadekar, Solkar, and a few others.

Since the flats were already occupied, the Chief Minister then , I think it was Sharad Pawar, who said they will break the terrace and give him the flat.

Then too Sachin refused, and I think now I am understanding the greatness of the human being called Sachin. I have criticized him before many a times, I failed to see the good human being in Sachin. To refuse a bunglow in Delhi, a flat in Mumbai and the Z security, for which people pull so many strings, is to rrealize that he is a great human being, the rarest of the rare.

My apologies Sachin, for misunderstanding u previously. You have risen so the skies in my eyes.
(Your collegue Rekha the film actress has accepted the offer of the bunglow eh ! )

    The Alimoney of One Rupee

I read this last week and could not believe my eyes. So let me put this here from the internet. Here goes

Bangalore: As Rebecca D’Souza received a one-rupee coin from her husband Robert Pinto (names changed) in the presence of their advocates and the family court judge here, it signalled an end to their seven-year marriage.

And, much to the surprise of those at the family court, the coin also represented the permanent alimony amount D’Souza had sought from her husband. “One day, Rebecca called me and said she didn’t want any alimony and would rather settle the issue for a nominal one rupee. She said she was self-sufficient and didn’t want people to say that she was living off the money offered by her ex-husband,’’ Rebecca’s counsel said.

Both Rebecca and Robert are doctors. While Rebecca works as a heart specialist in a prestigious Mumbai hospital, Robert is practising in the Gulf. They have no children.

Its really amazing Kamalji to know about these people. Hats off to them.

This news about Sachin needs to be known by everyone who are criticizing him for accepting the RS seat. Its their self respect and confidence in one self in case of Rebeca.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

    Kamal,

Both are selfless acts that commands a lot of respect from people. Thank you for writing this post and highlighting it.

I couldn't control my laughter after reading your definition of joint family.

Now I understand why no one came to my rescue after my marriage. When they heard my scream, they thought I was having a good time.

    Hahahahaha.

    Dear Kamalji,

no doubt it is a selfless act from a man who is content it seems. But I have to complain - I just feel so bad that instead of doing what is requested, I am sure it will be offered to another celebrity who will not refuse :-( The problem is the next step. I know I am whining but just one more step from these people who can make a difference and it could be such a different place! As for Rebecca, she certainly is a self sufficient lady and has her priorities!

    As always enjoyed reading it!

    Hi kamalji,

good to see you.. why aren't we seeing you more often these days ?

kudos to our Sachin. yes, he has risen to a greater height in my eyes too.:) trust Rekha to accept it LOL.

I am really not very surprised at Rebecca.. when you have decided to sever a relationship how can you continue to be financially dependent on him , is something I have always wondered.. but of course not all ladies can afford to not accept from their exes..they might not be qualified or earning enough and to sustain themselves and the kids alimony comes handy, I guess.. but women like Rebecca obviously should not..kudos to her and her breed of women.

the roller coaster joke and the spelling mistake one :rotfl:rotfl

Wonderful blog Kamalji. Yes, truly, hats of too Sachin. He has proved how solid his upbringing in a middle class, urban Maharashtrian family has been.

As for the doctor, it is good that she is financially independent and has the means to lead a life truly independent of the man whom she married and then chose to divorce for whatever her reasons.

Such people are truly men and women of substance.
