Nandhu, i've not yet zeroed in on any doc. I've asked DH to ask around as well...Will let you know in a few weeks time once I finalize...

Btw, can I ask you something...might sound silly but still let me shoot because am confused..Why do most people here seem to go to Indian ob gyns alone? Is it because of the comfort level? Maybe not, because most of the reviews say they are curt and do not encourage questions...Or is it because there are more Indian ob gyns than those of other nationalities in NJ? Should an Indian doc be a factor in choosing your ob gyn? Am new to NJ, and to US as well, soo could you please enlighten me :)

Having read some of the posts looking for a good doctor and having been through the frantic search myself I thought to post the best I know here for you:

Magness-Stafford OB/GYN in Cherry Hill on Haddonfield-Berlin Rd.
Dr. Stafford delivered my daughter and they took over my care in the 7th month of pregnancy after I left another practice because I was unhappy with the care I was getting there. They were referred to me by my endocrinologist and I am forever grateful.

    DVIFG - Marlton, NJ:
They are all caring and compassionate and will do everything possible to make you well and/or diagnose your condition. Staff is phenomenal.

Partners in Primary Care -Maple Shade, NJ
We've been going to them forever and they are very good. Staff has had a bit of turnover like many places do these days, but the head nurses have been there forever and are very helpful. Drs. are Nancy Janik, "Dr. Mike" DiMarcangelo and Dr. Kevin Norton (newbie but ok). They have even been known to do housecalls for elderly or those who are bedridden.

Marlton Pediatrics - Marlton, NJ across from the Promenade on Route 73.
They are the BEST doctors I have ever known - came to see our daughter at birth in the delivery room itself and everyday inthe hospital after until we went home. They are available 24/7 and are even open Sundays for sick appointments only (yes, SUNDAYS!) We have moved a little further north now but still plan to stay there because of the quality of the care she gets with them.

Virtua West Jersey Hospital - Voorhees
Best place for childbirth, hands down. The staff is excellent, especially the nurses, and anyone who's been hospitalized knows that the nurses are more important than the doctors as far as your comfort is concerned.

Hope this is of help to someone.
    :O)

I'm a legal assistant and I've worked on med-malpractice suits and have had my own share of unpleasant experiences, so I know how intimidating it can be to question a doctor you aren't happy with and how scary it is to find someone new.
I cannot stress enough the importance of making sure that you are satisfied and can reasonably trust whomever you go to. Your health is most important and is too precious to take lightly. If you ever feel you aren't been treated well, do try another office - you can take your business elsewhere just like with anything else so never be afraid to speak up. On another note, you are responsible for your own health, so always ask questions if you don't know and always answer your doctor's questions truthfully.

    Hi

I know that lot of Indians chose an Indian doc probably because they feel more comfortable with one...

If you don't have a problem talking english...n have no reservations about some other doc...i think that should work fine for you.

well! I was like you not too long ago....new in the US.
So i had to ask around for evrything ...n didnt have many friends....So I can imagine

anyway ! the factors to consider when choosing a doc
    are....

    will they answer your questions?
    are they punctual?
how friendly is the office staff? { from my experience I can say that Indian office staff that are not very pleasant ...even if the doctor is:)}[ they should basically be professional]
is the practice close to your house or work place?
are they affiliated to a hospital in which your insurance is permissible....and the hospital shouldnt be too far for you

these are just a few ...will let you know more as I remember

I saw this thread and wanted to add for anyone in South Jersey.
I went through a difficult time with my pregnancy and was dissatisfied with the care I got initially by my first OB, so I ended up switching mid-pregnancy, which is hard to do. I was lucky as I had a very good specialist who helped me along and they only recommended the new OB, who was terrific. YOU are responsible for your own health, and if you don't like or trust the doctor, by all means, go ahead and find someone you are comfortable with and will be frank with you. It is your body and your baby and your money, and they must treat you with kindness and respect.
There is a reason why OB's are so scarce in NJ, the insurance is very high here because OB's are at most risk for malpractice suits due to the nature of the practice and no room for error.

    Magness-Stafford OB/GYN on Haddonfield-Berlin Road.
Dr. Rose Magness and Dr. Patricia Stafford (she delivered my daughter) and they are with Virtua - West Jersey/Voorhees, which I also highly recommend.

The staff all are friendly and even the nurse practitioners can see you for less urgent matters and are knowledgeable and kind. Same with the hospital. You will want good nurses wherever you end up, as they are the main ones who will care for you and the baby, and I cannot compliment Virtua enough.

Also, Marlton Pediatrics in Marlton, NJ off of Route 73 and Evesham Road.
They are very good doctors and will even see your child on Sundays if they are ill - yes, 7 DAYS they are open for sick appointments! And they will answer your questions by phone no matter what time of day or night. They saw my daughter in the delivery room the day she was born and checked in on her in the hospital everday thereafter, just to say hi and make sure I didn't have any questions. They will do ear piercing as well for those wishing to do that for daughters, Dr. Blackman does it and he will give you ointment to put on their ears before the appointment to numb them so the baby doesn't even feel anything. Worked like a charm :)

One more referral - for womens' issues such as infertility, endometrioses and other problems, I highly recommend Delaware Valley Institute of Fertility and Genetics, also in Marlton on Evesham Rd. across from the Promenade mall - New For Our Patients : South New Jersey Fertility : Infertility Experts

    Be well and happy.

oops, just saw the post.. shoooorrrry.

hmm.. why they go to Indian docs.. ofcourse comfort level. Even though there are -ve pointers here, those docs still survive and then it means, there are other people who are fine how they are handling the patients right? Also they go to them, because when you are into the period.. diet plays an important role and being indian, they easily understand our food I feel. For me, personally yeah I prefer my Gynec being an Indian only because of the above reason.

But.. But.. if I have my options open. If I meet a gynec(non-Indian) and I have that connection, I guess I will go with that person as well.

My cant-change choice is.. it should be a woman. I am not that ready enough to have a male gynec :hide::hide:

hey Nandhu thanks buddy! :hiya i agree about the diet part. for now, i really don have an immediate long term need for a gyn, just want to go in for a gen check up, but don't mind selecting a couple of gyns.. reserved for later if need arises..

Sameeeeeeee here..i think i'll never feel at ease with a male gyn.. totally a personal preference.
