Guardianship Of Elderly Parents In Usa

    I just read scary article where US courts can appoint any stranger to be guardian to your parents if they are deemed too old and senile to care for themselves. That means any rat (yes, that is exactly what they are) from the street can take course to become guardian and invade your parents, i.e. control their hard-earned money, sell their property, put them in nursing home.

    How the Elderly Lose Their Rights

    Luckily at this point my Dad still has all his senses, but he forgets here and there. I'm kind of concerned about someone seizing control.

    To the people in USA, how do you care for parents if they are in USA?

    Sending parents to live in "assisted living" facilities is the usual way. One should do it when they are reasonably in control of their faculties. That way they would make friends inside the facility.
    I prefer to live in colder climates. So, when my time comes, I would like to be in the pacific NW states - oregon or washington. One may also check oneself into such places, and see how it goes, and which one is the best for the person and the budget.
