Growing older is a relief!

    Dear Ilites,

    Are you worried about growing older?

    I felt much relieved after my birthday because people around me anticipate it so much now that I can relax. But I am worried for one reason now that my dear ilites might assume me for an older lady :eek :wink: :mrgreen:.

    "But getting older to me is nice anyway. I guess that there is a sense of relief. You are released from certain concepts as you get older", says Hollywood actress Julia Roberts who had turned 40 recently. She is my favourite actress too.

    Well, I would like to relate few musings on getting old -


    1. You're asleep, but others worry that you're dead.
    2. Your back goes out more often than you do.
    3. You sit in a rocking chair and can't get it going.
    4. Your arms are almost too short to read the newspaper.
    5. Your favourite part of the newspaper is "20 years ago today".
    6. Your children begin to look middle aged.
    7. You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.
    8. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
    9. People call at 9:00 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?"
    10. Your ears are hairier than your head.
    11. You get into a heated argument about pension plans.
    12. You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
    13. Your major expenditure would be for a hair dye.
    14. You might get into a research on "Stop getting old - reverse aging?"
    15. You know all the answers but nobody asks you questions.
    16. You find yourself smiling at this list.
    Is that all true?

    Ilites may come up with their own musings on getting older.

    Ya growing older is a relief. But it depends on what situation
    u are. If your daughter in law stays with u and she looks
    after everything then u can relax. I feel after 60 one grows
    younger. You should count after sixty from the age of 1.
    U must have seen old people are like children only. If you
    are healthy at old age then it is good. No worry for u and no
    worry for others. You can take care of your grandchildren
    in a better way. Though I am old by age in am still young at
    heart. I still like to face challenges. This is my view. Lets
    see what others say

    Dear Viji Madam,

    That is the spirit. Seeing people like you gives us more strength and confidence as we grow old. I agree with all your statements. Even I have started a thread earlier for women in the age of 60. Thank you for the reply.

    My Observations on People who are 60+ is:

    You are often invited by your kids on weekends only if you have a money and assets with you.

    You are often advised by your kids to write a "Will".

    You will have quick medical check ups and treatment, if you have your own money.

    Your presence at home will not be tolerated as the working kids who are married want to throw a party and dance with wine and music.

    Your advice is considered as down market and flushed!

    Your culinary skill remain in trend forever!

    You love to sail in the memories of your kids as youngsters as those were the days they were YOUR KIDS! Today, they are just biologically termed!

    You are lucky enough to watch your serials or movies on television if you are staying at your home and not your kids.

    You need to retire to bed alone though you have sat late nights to put your babies to sleep!

    You are lucky to have a listener at home!

    You are considered when the grand children are home alone!

    You are old when your bones and joints have started acheing and you have started farting and burping at all wrong places!

    You need to invest on wrinkle free creams (many oldies do) and hair colours.

    You have given up wearing shoes and sandals and have settled for Accue Puncture Chappals.

    You are lucky if your kids let you follow the religious calendar, at many homes, it is being considered outdated!

    The list goes on and they are quoted by observing 'n' number of families around me! My heart bleeds, yet the oldies have only good things to say about their kids!

    By getting old..you are deprived of silly amusements..labelling as childish..
    Getting old gives respect..:confused2:
    You get discounts on tickets, days would be allotted in the shops to get 'senior discount days'.
    Your curiosity is labelled as 'nosy'..
    You will be promoted from middle-aged to 'seniors'..:hiya
    Those around you would now know the maximum volume limit in the TV..
