Green mango-mint cooler Raw mangoes increase the elasticity of the blood vessels and help the formation of new blood cells. It aids absorption of food iron. It increases resistance against TB, anaemia, cholera and dysentery. The acids contained in the green mangoes increase the secretion of bile and act as an intestinal antiseptic. Have it with honey and black pepper daily. This paste is also good for toning the liver. A fully ripe mango is high in Vitamin A (beta-carotene), which is a cancer-fighting agent, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, and B2, niacin, potassium, iron and fibre. Green mangoes have a higher proportion of Vitamin C. Mangoes are good for the kidneys, digestive system of the body and the skin. It relieves clogged skin pores, reduces cysts, excess body heat and fever. All parts of the mango have medicinal uses.Unripe mangoes have many acids which result in its sour taste. As such, it is acidic, astringent and antiscorbutic( capacity to prevent and cure scurvy) importantly it helps to prevent heat strokes. While mint is a coolant. It is said to be a storehouse of minerals and antioxidants.it improves digestion, controls acidity and also irritable bowel syndrome. It is a mouth freshener, good to control acne. With a strong flavour, it acts as an expectorant. It boosts immunity and helps fight cancer. Black salt is low in sodium and rich in iron. It reduces blood pressure, said to have many other benefits like in thyroid problem, paralysis etc. A combo of these has to be a sure winner during summer! Ingredients 1. ¼ kg green sour mangoes, 2. nearly ½ kg sugar, 3. 1 medium bunch of fresh mint (pudina), 4. 1 tsp black salt, 5. Water. Method 1. Wash, peel and grate mangoes and discard the seeds. 2. Sort mint leaves, wash and drain. 3. Take one-litre water and dissolve sugar in it. 4. Wet grind mango and mint leaves. 5. Mix this mango-mint pulp with sugar water. 6. Add black salt. 7. Adjust sugar levels and rest the juice for 30 minutes. 8. Strain the juice and store in an air-tight bottle in the refrigerator. 9. Serve by diluting with water to suit your taste. 10. Serve chilled. Suggestions 1. Alternately, sometimes make ‘only green mango’ juice. 2. You may retain a few strands of the grated mango and add it to the juice before serving for a burst of fresh flavour! *********************************************************************** Aam Panna – a cooling Green Mango drink Aam Panna which is prepared using raw mangoes, jaggery(sugar) and an assortment of spices is an effective remedy for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It also quenches thirst and prevents the excessive loss of sodium chloride and iron during summer due to excessive sweating. This drink is considered beneficial in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. This drink is also a good source of vitamin B1 and B2, vitamin C and contains sufficient quantity of niacin. Aam Panna is also considered as a curative for blood disorders because of its high vitamin C content. It increases the elasticity of the blood vessels and helps in the formation of new blood cells. This drink is also considered as a tonic which increases body resistance against tuberculosis, anaemia, cholera and dysentery. Indian black salt is considered a cooling spice in ayurvedic medicine and is recommended for many health issues such as constipation, indigestion, heartburn, bloating, flatulence, goitre, poor eyesight etc Taste wise it is sweet n sour. Spices spice up the drink. Adjust sweet according to your taste. It is a refreshing drink varying in colour from light green to yellow depending on the inherent colour of the raw mango and the ingredients. Time: 40 minutes Ingredients 1. 5 sour raw mangoes, 2. 150-200g grated jaggery or sugar (as per taste), 3. 1 tsp black salt, 4. Crushed peppercorns, 5. Cardamom powder (elaichi), 6. Water. Method 1. Wash and pressure cook mangoes in sufficient amount of water. 2. When cool, extract its pulp and reject its seeds and skin. 3. In a mixer /grinder grind mango pulp and jaggery into a smooth paste using water. 4. Now the concentrate is ready. Store in the refrigerator. 5. Before serving, dilute with chilled water. Add a pinch each of cardamom and peppercorn powder. 6. Serve Aam Panna topped with ice cubes. *********************************************************************** Aam Panna with Mint leaves Ingredients 1. 5 sour raw mangoes, 2. 150-200g grated jaggery or sugar (as per taste), 3. 1 tsp black salt, 4. A handful of mint leaves, 5. Crushed peppercorns, 6. Roasted cumin powder, 7. Water. Method 1. Wash and pressure cook mangoes in sufficient amount of water. 2. When cool, extract its pulp and reject its seeds and skin. 3. In a mixer/grinder grind mango pulp, mint leaves and jaggery into a smooth paste using water 4. Now the concentrate is ready. Store in refrigerator. 5. Before serving dilute with chilled water and add a pinch each of cumin powder and peppercorn powder or Chaat masala on top. 6. Serve Green Aam Panna topped with ice cubes. Another gem from you Geeta! Aam panna is the quintessential summer drink of every Indian kitchen. Add some shikanji (North Indian lemonade), bel ka ras (wood apple and jaggery drink), Kissan pineapple squash and you've got my childhood. My mom's Godrej refrigerator was never without these during the summer. Koi lauta de mere beete hue din... : )
