Re: Madurai Schools-need help Hi gayathri, Any luck on your school hunt. Have you filtered out your options. We are really confused. which syllabus are you looking for, State borad, ICSE or CBSE. Mahatma near mattuthavani has both matric & CBSE. Some say Mahatma and TVS is good, while other says SBOA is too good (but it's far from your place). Having tough time deciding betweetn velammal, Mahatma, SBOA, Jeevana....:spinmy god. Please share with me your opinion and plans, which may help us.
DEar Aabhi, I hope you people don't mind my merging all the threads on schools. I wanted to so that you will have a better idea of the previous discussions, where in you can find 2/3 ilites who have done their school in madurai. One of my friends studied in Good shepherd ?? and another in fatima. the one who did in fatima was even thinking of putting her daughter as a hosteler there. The chennai forum is so good, with loads of information comparing to madurai one. Infact, I wanted to put up a request to you to get your feedback, as you are like educational guidance guru in IL. Thanks for sharing the info about Good speherds & Fathima. Let me explain my request in detail, my son is in CBSE currently and we are planning to move to Madurai (probably by the start of next academic year). I feel CBSE is more book oriented, there are no projects or practical based education on any subject's. The very own traditional way of studying from the text book and appear for exams. Does this help in overall development? Hence, we would like to take this apportunity (while moving to new school in Madurai) to decide on a syllabus which would be prompt & helpful on all aspects. And so we are having 2 dilemma's, firstly which curriculum to choose (CBSE or ICSE). Madurai has many CBSE & ICSE schools. Both are Indian curriculum's. I've done quiet a lot of online research, but got completely confused. Some report says ICSE is tougher and other says it's easier, but concentrates more in Language (English) and lack in detailed teaching in other major subject. Can you please provide me with some detailed info regarding this subject and if I may ask, which curriculym does your kids go to. and why did you choose that. Just curious to know, which would help in our decision.

Hello every1,i'm an alumnus of VMJ school,Madurai.I just arrived at this thread while surfing through the net..So,u wanna know the best school in mdu? VMJ...not just b'coz its my alma matter,but b'coz of their excellent faculty and academic environment..Yr child certainly gets great exposure as well.Student care is the best in VMJ coz there are only 20 students in each section and a total of 3 sections in each standard.Not more than 60 students each standard..the mgmt is strict abt it..Only the cream students can study in VMJ..every student studying with u has great knowledge and exposure..U will find yr kid way ahead of other students after he/she completes his/her school edu..The only disadv is..getting a seat in VMJ..u need to have high recommendation from the board to get yr kid in there.. TVS...my bro's studying there..very reputed school..live up to their reputation...disadv..they don't care for low graders until they reach Class X or XII.. VMJ has got ICSE till class 10 and in 11th and 12th,its state board..ICSE is way tougher than CBSE...but that doesn't mean yr kid will become a bookworm or geek..the harder the academics...the more the nonacademics..
