Delhi, actually, lacks adequate space for holding social functions, especially marriages. The common venues for holding marriage functions are banquet halls, farmhouses and municipal parks.

The problem with banquet halls concerns parking of vehicles. The roads on which the halls are located are often jammed with cars, which cause great traffic pandemonium. Parking problems also exist with municipal parks. But, the greatest problem is that the parks are found damaged to a great extent, the day after the functions are held. This is a big concern for MCD.

Marriage functions often end with the municipal park littered with heaps of garbage. The green lawns, which are supposed to be a boon to the eyes, are turned into eyesore.

You are right Anandi! Municipal parks become misfit for the general public and the children from at least two days prior to the date of the marriage function. The very objective of a park of providing leisurely walks, exercises and peaceful outings in a green environment is completely defeated.

The most problematic feature of marriages is that the “pundits” declare a particular day or a few specific days as auspicious for marriage, for one and all. This starts a frenzied search for suitable venues that would be able to welcome hundreds of invitees.

Often, a public park has more than one pandal on a single evening.
