My friend's daughter who is doing her PhD was looking for a two bedroom apartment. An interesting question came up when we all were talking about her apartment and roommate hunting experience. Two women (early to mid-20's) are going to share a two bedroom two bath apartment. W1 - woman1, W2 - woman2. Just met, no common friends. W1 (woman1) takes the first bedroom. W2 (woman2) takes the second bedroom. First bedroom has an attached (en-suite) bathroom. Second bedroom does not have an attached bathroom. When W1 has guests over, should they use her (attached) bathroom, which means they have to pass the other bathroom, enter her bedroom and then user her attached bathroom? Or should W2's bathroom also serve as "guest" bathroom? If you were W2, would you be fine with your bathroom also serving as guest bathroom? I don't know about the rent division.
I said if I was single and renting with a roommate, I wouldn't like my bathroom to be used by people (especially men -- of any age) I don't know when I am not in the apartment. DH said he wouldn't mind if any one used his bathroom as long as he wasn't in the bathroom. : ) I was thinking back to my early and mid-20's. Used to have lot of stuff in the bathroom, and used it to dry unmentionables.
I think respective guests use respective bathrooms i.e. w-1’s guests use her attached bathroom & w-2’s guests her separate bathroom. I don’t think it shd be hard to explain the circular/ longish route to the w-1 guests considering these are just room mates trying to cohouse & anyone would respect others’ privacy (personal choices).
I don't know that this would even occur to me to discuss while sharing living arrangements!! I am like your husband, would be OK for people to use "my" bathroom.
W2 = ages ago . W1 guests that came for chai shai during the day could use the guest bathroom ( pakoras and gupshup made it difficult for me to say NO) W1 overnight guest ( aka BF) obviously used her bathroom.
