Early this morning when i checked my gmail, i found a mail from IT department. It read like this: Dear valued taxpayer, We have reviewed your tax fiscal payment for previous years and have resolved that you are qualified for a refund of the sum of 36,120.25 INR which is your accumulated tax excesses. Please submit a tax refund request and allow us to process it within 7(seven) working days. Immediately i forwarded this mail to my DH who is in office and was thinking i dint submit by refunds declaration and even dint collect my form 16 of last financial year as i have moved here. there was a link given below which leads to a site which is not secure(i dint notice this) and then also a site exactly like the Income Tax Dept one.It shows all the tabs present in Income Tax site such as refunds and all. First it showed to select our banker.my bank wasnt on the list and so i selected others which showed many other banks..now here it asked for bank name, customer id and password.. then i understood it was a fraudulent mail and checked for the income-tax site.they had already mentioned in the site that: "Income Tax Dept doesnt send mails regarding any refunds to taxpayers and doesnt ask for your credit card details or bank account passwords" So people beware of such mails..these mails have been in circulation from quite some time i guess as there were complaints of this way back in march 2010 which i came to know just today.. so please donot enter your details on any such sites..
Thanks Sushma for this valuable informations. Such fraud emails are on the rise and we have to be very careful.
