    Iron-rich diet for pregnant lady

    Hello friends,

I am carrying a baby and having regular check ups with my gyaneacologist. The doctor after a routine blood test told me that I am anemic and need to have an iron-rich diet.

I am very anxious to have a healthy and chubby baby. I want to have a normal delivery too. Hence I am concious about my food intake.

Ladies, please help me out with recipies for iron-rich food.
    bye.

    Take greens everyday

    Hi Vinitha,

    Great news ...Congrats :D

Try to include one type of greens everyday in your diet.
Also it should be included in the half cooked form adding different types of dhal to it. You can also have spinach soup.

    Vinitha,

Iron-rich vegetarian foods include legumes, whole grains and dried fruits.
Among the non-veg food, meats and fish are good sources of iron.

Good luck for a normal delivery and to yield a healthy baby.

    Spicy food during pregnancy?

I love spicy food a lot, but I heard that during pregnancy spicy food is to be avoided. Cos too much of spicy food results in baby having very little hair in his/her head.

Is this a myth or true?

Simi, if what you heard is going to be true then babies of all our andhravaadus should be almost bald :p .

Too much of anything is not good. So it is not necessary to completely avoid but try to have a balance.

Enjoy your pregnancy by eating whatever appeals to you. Also eat lots of dry fruits and nuts.

    Consume less salt during pregnancy

During pregnancy ladies tend to eat a lot of spicy and especially sour dishes (like pickles). The problem with these kind of food is they have more salt than the bland dishes.

It is advisable to consume very less salt during pregnancy to avoid high bp and water retention. So try to reduce salt intake while you enjoy spicy or sour foods.

    Re: odd cravings?

    Hi,
    I didn't had any cravings.
I heard from the doctor that if you have some deficiency, then you might have some cravings. Please do vitamins and take good care.
Please try to avoid junk foods.

    Take care and good luck,
    Punitha
