He was a great leader and the most charismatic figure that you might have ever seen. Also found in him, that was so rare, was his spiritual inclination and doing things by himself. For reasons that he alone knew, he never married.

Whenever he went to a far away place for a meeting, what all he did was to pack his personal things all by himself, which included his shaving kit and a small wooden box that had a needle and a thread roll. Though he had assistants, they helped him only in business correspondence. On such a trip, while unpacking, the needle box slipped out of his hands and broke. He felt so much for it, but had to gear up faster. So, he placed the needle and the thread roll in the box where he kept his shaving needs.

The one that occupied a large area in that box, was a shaving foam, presented to him by one of his dear ones. He wouldn't have accepted it, but changed his mind, for the simple reason of not offending that dear one. It had a characteristic sweet smell which was there for a longer time and came in a beautiful box with a bright label. He used it frequently. It was so proud that it gave that smell and hence enhanced his personae. Obviously, it did not like an old and slightly rusted needle and a thread roll kept next to it.

It was forced aside to give room for them, so naturally, it was angry. "My master doesn't know where to keep which item. How can he place this ugly thing next to me?", it felt. And soon tried to crush the thread roll while being taken along. Very soon, the leader took up a yatra, where his plan was to cover several villages by foot. He neither had the need, nor the time to touch that box in that trip, till one night, he took it. Feeling very happy, the foam bottle rolled slightly to indicate its happiness, that it was about to be picked after a gap.

He kept it aside, and took the thread and needle, to sew his torn cloth.

This applies to human beings as well. Our strength is in how useful we are to other fellow beings. Our appearance or intelligence or education or wealth makes no difference.

Thats exactly the point Viswamitra. Its not that the foam was useless. It is. But the needle too was useful. Just reminded myself of the quote - everyone is important, but nobody is indispensable. Don't know who said it. Thanks for your feedback Sir. -rgs

Wonderfully written about the 'IMPORTANCE OF EVERYTHING/EVERYONE' in a nice and sweet, short story Rgs.
I was really wondering, how do you get such ideas, that too expressed in such a short and sweet way & that too soooo many!!!!!
    Regards,
    Latha.

Thanks for your generous appreciation Latha. To be honest, I just experiment wildly. Some may accidentally be good too. :) -rgs
