Dear All, I am an ardent fan of George Orwell. I first read his remarkable novel ‘Nineteen Eighty Four’ when I was around 18. I was indeed scared of the possibility of an omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent Big Brother gaining complete control of the World. I was very happy when the year 1984 dawned as any other adoringly chaotic year and we did not have to pledge our conscience to any totalitarian party. His ‘Animal Farm’ is another hugely popular novel and is rated as one of the 100 best novels of the Century. You may be wondering why I am writing all this eulogy about George Orwell. Most of you may know that I have this great tendency for drivel and digression until I am driven to what I have come to say with a pistol pressed at my right temple! I merely wanted to make use of an Orwell Quote appearing in his ‘Animal Farm’ that ‘all are equal but some are more equal than others!’ because that is the only escape route available to me now for announcing the Winners this month! There are exactly 50 nominations for September all of which are of exquisite quality and are eminently readable. It is like judging a Beauty Pageant in which all the 50 contestants are Aiswarya Rai (Sorry if I am not up-to-date about the more recent names of beauty queens!) If anyone is interested in the hairstyle of Rakesh Roshan or Anupam Kher, he should take up this assignment of judging the FP nominations of IL! Considering the enormity of the task, I decided to apply the Animal Farm technique this month. Realizing that all the 50 nominations were absolutely equal in quality, content and the narrative style, I zeroed in on ten which I thought were more equal than the rest. I read them and re-read them and the more I did that, the more they all looked most equal! I read them forwards and backwards and finally, selected the following as the most equal of the 50 equal threads: Finest Contribution of the month: http://www.indusladies.com/forums/snippets-of-life-non-fiction/180698-my-journey.html#post2422521 by cotton This thread is disarmingly candid and the manner in which she has located her negative points is a unique trait in this world infested with self-opinionated folks. This is introspection of a very positive kind which recommends itself to all those who suffer from similar despondency. Any self improvement exercise can start only with self analysis to understand the areas that need correction. Cotton has brought out this aspect very well in her journey. My special thanks to my good friend Viswa for spotting out this wonderful thread and nominating it. This may not be an appropriate quote here but I can’t think of any other to describe Viswa’s ability to spot out talent- ‘Pambin kaal pambariyum’ (Only a snake can see the legs of another snake!). My hearty congratulations to Viswa! Finest Narration of the month: http://www.indusladies.com/forums/snippets-of-life-non-fiction/178922-hit-by-nostalgia.html by smritisinha Any nostalgic journey into the past is best kept to oneself if he/she does not have the narrative skill to make the readers feel the same nostalgia and I should say smriti has that skill in abundance. When I write about my childhood in Timbuktu, two things can happen. Either you may become very inquisitive about Timbuktu and ask for more details about it or you may get struck by nostalgia of your own childhood in the dusty village where you grew. The success lies in the second category and smriti has excelled in it. Credit should go to Satchi for nominating it. This girl is busy either winning the FP Contest or nominating the Winners! My congrats to you too Satchi! My hearty congratulations to both the winners of the Month! All winners...Please give your contact info at the below email so your gifts can be sent to you. Thanks! support@indusladies.com The FP Team
Dear Smritisinha and Cotton, Congratulations! clapclap Read both your snippets and am yet to write in your threads. Suffice to say I was floored by both the posts. You enrich our writer's forums surely. Keep it up and look forward to reading more from you! L, Kamla
Dear Cheeniya sir, The excitement of reading your posts is unparalleled!! Great winning posts and fantastic announcement. The special thing about reading your inputs is one comes out richer for the experience! "All are equals and some more equal than others"!! Wah wah, kya baat hain! :thumbsup Orwell said it, but you have the knack of finding the apt saying at the right given instance. I too remember Orwell's book 'Nineteen Eighty Four' for I bought it myself and 'attempted' to read it about a dozen times!:hide: It just did not appeal to me those days and it collected quite a bit of dust on the bookshelf, sorry to say. Now that you mention it, the wish to read it is rekindled. You always do that!! The number of references and quotes you bring in to your posts are really informative and interesting. I am so glad that you are now in FP and we all get to enjoy your posts regularly. As for our winners, like you mention, all are equals, no doubt about it! L, Kamla
