    Hi Ladies,

Am a 2nd time mom and today we went for my 19 weeks anatomy scan. All the organs were analysed and dr mentioned that everything looks except that she see a blister (area of increased echogenicity seen in area of papillary muscle). Usually, this will be seen mostly on left side chamber of heart and for most of asians and chinese dr mentioned that it may also be seen in the right side. If it is seen on the right side/bilateral then it is considered as 'high risk' seems. So, dr asked me to take Maternal 21 & fetal echo. We freaked out intially but I mentioned to dr that i've already taken maternal 21 blood test and they were normal. For some reason, it was not on my file so she went back and checked and told me that - then it is considered as 'low risk' (since my maternal 21 came back normal - Trisomy 21 tests) but still to make sure 99.99% everything is okay I have to go for fetal echocardiogram next week.

Me & DH were very tensed but after dr said it is low risk our tension went down. Dr also mentioned that mostly it will come out good and not to worry. Good, we took Maternal 21 though dr said it is optional earlier.

My question to all is, anyone faced such situation? :help

    Thanks Divya.

Forgot to mention few points: Initially baby co-operated well but when radiologist was taking tests around the 4 chambers of heart she mentioned that baby is not cooperating and asked me to walk around for sometime (so that baby will change position) but still she had issues taking the test. Then finally, she took the tests and then we were asked to go and meet my OB/GYN.

Till I get normal results, I will keep on browsing for fetal echo and can't stay peaceful :( which is my problem.

    Hey Anitha,

I can understand what is going on in your mind. its obvious.

I heard this same condition from one of my friend. but the baby was absolutely fine when born.

This is just a heard news.

As doctor said, its a low risk one, you need not worry too much. Your doubts will be cleared once you are done with this echo cardiogram.

I dont know how they missed informing about this in maternal 21 test.

I will keep you in my prayers... dont worryconsole1

    Hi Anithapartha and others,

I am also 18 1/2 weeks pregnant and at my 16 weeks ultrasound the doc. Detected ecogenic focci in the left side of fetus heart.I went for The maternitT test and quad test the same day and it came out negative . The doc did not advice for amniocentesis.i went for repeat ultrasound 2 days ago and asked them to do the fetal ecg . The doc.( the high risk fetal maternal specialist)said he has not heard of that and there are no more tests available to ensure if everything is okay with the baby's heart except amniocentesis. At that time I did not argue with the doc, but I did tons of research and know that other moms have gone for fetal ecg for ecogenic focii. As per online, ecg can be done either by pediatric cardiologist or fetal maternal specialist but I don't know how to convince them to do fetal ecg . I am really stressed out and want to ensure that there are no structural and functional abnormalities of fetus heart .

Can you or other ladies plz guide me how to go about demanding my doc. about fetal ecg. I live in ct, usa and donot think. I need referral as per my insurance.

i would really worried and appreciate any advice, guidance .. Thank you ladies

    Anisha,
    Please relax!
Are you also due in April?
Actually, am going for my fetal echo test this Tuesday. This is what my dr told me after seeing anomoly scan report... Since, my Maternal 21 tests were normal she asked me to go for fetal echo test. Actually, instead of 'amniocentesis' only Maternal 21 blood tests have come which is easier and less risky when compared to 'amniocentesis'. Check with other GYN regarding fetal echo tests. This is just to be 99.99% to make sure everything is fine. I'll keep you posted.
