    Hi Neesha,
I too am trying to trace my familytree.I have very few links/facts I have mypaternal grandmothers first name and Date of Death and only Year of birth and the villiage in South India. After that I am stuck I imagine that there must be records in SA of this kind of info, given that the Boers were very obsessed with classification etcAlso I imagine in the villiages of India there must possibly be records of birth/death/marriages. My family came presumably to SA via Port Elizabeth on sugarboats and went by oxwagon to Kimberley, where they settled near the mines. If there are any ideas/suggestions as to how I could proceed further I would welcome that.

    Hi Naidoos

Just saw your message now. If you have an idea when your family came to SA and on what ship there are passenger lists for all ships carrying indentured labourers. Also there is the "Archives". I will find out more as to what information they have and get back to you.

    Regards Neesha
