Hi, I am 5 weeks and i have been used to applying jolen or sally hansen bleach on face for a long time. Is it still safe to apply bleach ? I know indian ladies do facial bleaching a lot but is it advisable during pregnancy ??

    Thanks for responses.

    hi mommytobe,

i've read that whatever cream or lotion we apply on our skin, some of the chemicals get absorbed into the body, get processed by the liver and might cross the placenta and reach the foetus...so please consult ur OB/Gyn abt continuing with applying them..it is always better to be careful! :)

Please don't do any bleaching during pregnancy and while feeding the baby.
It affects the baby with the bleaching chemicals.

    Hi...

My face has developed a sudden rash and it has been like that since I was 5 weeks preg. The doctor has suggested to leave it as it is. she has not even suggested any creams...so its better to leave all these creams aside during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

    Radhee.

    Dear Mommytobe,

    Congratulations on the pregnancy :)

You are getting good advice here.

Some harsh chemicals absorbed through skin and blood cause harmful effects to the fetus.

The effects of bleaching chemicals on a fetus have not been studied. So there is no way to know how bad the effects can be. They could be really really really bad. When that is the case it is better not to take such risks. Once the baby is affected you cant do anything about it.

I am sure your OB/GYN will confirm the advices being given here. It would be a very very bad idea to continue using bleaching chemicals when you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

    Hi Mommy to be,

I specifically asked my Gyn and she said not to use bleach when pregnant.

    Take care.
