I believe the issue is the addictive nature. Once you try Pot or any addictive item for that matter, you will try it out for a second time. It is very easy to get addicted to something.

Few people may be able to control and not increase their daily quota of the substance, however there are people who get heavily addicted. If the individual is responsible, it may be fine... but then these things rarely have any health benefits.. so if possible, why start in the first place.

Coffee, tea are addictive, sugar addiction and what not.. Everything should be done in moderation..
I beg to differ on "rarely have any health benefits".. Beneficial effects of red wine on human heart is well researched and documented.. So is Pot.

@buvivishal - It isn't about right or wrong sometimes. When we get into relationships, there maybe things that aren't wrong but are not acceptable to our partners. Social drinking is a delicate subject in many conservative families. It's even taboo. Elsewhere it isn't such a big deal. The right or wrong isn't the issue here, it's all about what you can and cannot tolerate in a marriage. There are men who seem to think that their wives wearing western clothes isn't acceptable and those wives tow the line. He isn't single anymore to do as he pleases. Similarly it is really unfair on his part to compare you to his friend's wife. Do you compare him with your friend's husbands even if those guys are more broadmindedly than yours?

That at being said, if you nag him it'll only make matters worse. First think about how often and how much of it you can tolerate. Then, instead of arguing, bring it up tactfully. Tell him that you are a different individual, not his friend's wife. You are the one he married and this is how much you think you can accept.

Btw, one thing I can say is it's better it's done in your presence. I don't think it's right to have him go elsewhere to drink and come back home. This probably gives him the wrong message, that if there is something that you don't like, he can do it in your absence or without your knowledge. So be careful with that aspect.

    Regards,
    L

    Just find and justify yourself
When they starts drinking habit ?
How they tempted to continue this habit ?
During initial phase how much they had I am sure on the first day they had very small amount now this may be 2 - 3 glass.
also when they start this may be once in a while but today you can notice they are consuming weekly basis.

Well, there's some debate regarding the health benefits of red wine. A recent study concluded that the benefits are available to only a very select portion of the population -- people with a specific genetic mutation. Another one showed that drinking alcohol, even light-to-moderate amounts, provides no heart health benefit.

New Study Shows Drinking Alcohol, Even Light-to-Moderate Amounts, Provides No Heart Health Benefit

I think the best advice regarding alcohol consumption that I've read said this -- if you do drink, do so in moderation. If you don't, don't start. To start drinking alcohol because of it's purported heart benefits is like walking off a cliff to get some fresh air.

You are welcome to your views. I am welcome to mine. Does anyone drink alcohol or smoke pot for these so called health benefits. I don't think so. The end reason one does that is it makes one feel relaxed or feel good. And soon the relaxation ends up disturbing the other family members.

So if you can moderate and I mean moderate (i.e. 1 small should not become 1 large by the month end) , then go ahead else you are better off without such shady health benefits

Also please dont compare alcohol with coffee and tea.. I have never seen tea or coffee causing family damage and problems whereas alcohol consumption is a problem in many homes....

Who ever said that for a healthy heart you MUST drink red wine.. its a matter of choice.. Drinking red wine also helps.. no one's forcing down your throat.. if you wanna drink, drink responsibly..

and the study which you cited was on "who carry a genetic variant of the ‘alcohol dehydrogenase 1B’ gene".. I guess the study was on lack of ALDH2 gene, which is old news known to scientists since couple of decades.. I had a Chinese grad student in my lab who used to turn pink with just 3 sips of beer...

Dependance on alcohol or any other substance is a problem.. having couple of beers over the weekend is not a problem..

You know, I am in no mood to justify what me and what some of the people I love take. If you dont drink it, then dont na! Why are you going on preaching about it?
