    Hi all,

Me and my husband decided not to buy a TV, just to put my kid (who is 21/2 yrs) away from TV. I love to watch TV and my husband also, just for him we kept away ourselves from TV. Still today he don't ask us about TV, wat tommorrow will happen we dont know!

wat u think? Plz. suggest.
    are we doing right? :?

    Hi Shilpa,

I would say it's too hard a decision taken for the sake of a 2 1/2 years kid. Though I agree that these days kids tend to spend a lot of time in front of the TV, parents can actually control it to an extent rather than fully avoiding it. I feel you can buy a TV, but restrict the time your son can spend watching it daily.

Has he started going to school? Once he is in school, I am sure he is going to come back and ask you both to buy a TV on hearing from his classmates.

    Regards,
    Nila

    Hi Shilpa,
As the saying goes there is always two sides to a coin, there are pros and cons for any scientific advancements. Agreed that kids do watch a lot of cartoon in the TV. But any how the control is in our hands. When we think that they had enough of TV viewing for a day, we could distract them by taking for a walk in the park. Or we could enagage with any fun activities with our kids.

TV does have wonderful programmes in channels such as Animal Planet, Discovery and so on. My daughters like Animal Planet so much. I also do not mind them seeing such channels which is very educative and fascnating.

True that TV takes a lot of our leisure time ativities and socialising with friends. But that is not the mistake of the TV. The mindset lies with us. We are the boss and we should decide how long and what our kids should be viewing.
So are you off to purchase a TV?
    bye.

    hi shilpa..

there are no right or wrong ways of bringing up children..and keeping your child away from tv is not essentially the best thing you could do .I would ideally think the best thing u can do as a parent is to give ur child the kind of exposure that makes him knowledgeble .You can and only should give ur child "roots" and "wings",which means just giving a strong foundation to face all the challenges in life and emerge as a good human being .Im nt a parent yet but this is my take on it ..
    Have fun parenting..
    regards
    gayatri
