I've never tried leaving vinegar water on my hair overnight as my hair gets dry really fast. I do apply vinegar water after shampooing every other day and leave it on for 5 minutes. It's effective and easy on my hair.

I may be replying very late but........you can also grind fenugreek seeds/methi and green gram/moong and dried neem leaves (if you get them) along with shikakai for anti dandruff effect..........

Other supplements which can make the paste wholesome for the hair..........dried amla, reetha, dried rose petals, dried hibuscus leaves and flowers ground along with shikakai.............

You can dilute neem oil with any carrier oil i..e.. coconut oil, sesame oil etc and maasage on the scalp half an hour before you wash your hair..............you will definitely see a reduction in dandruff and itching sensation immediately.......neem oil stinks so you cannot stay on with it..........you have to apply and let it absorbed by the scalp for 30-40 minutes before washing............neem oil is anti fungal.......

So glad you have succeeded in clearing your dandruff problem. I normally try to go down as natural a route as possible using tea tree oil or jojoba oil (I know this is OK for my skin because it is in my Monsia Skincare products) see From Dandruff to Dandy: Jojoba Oil for Your Hair

The Perfect Mix For Dandruff - Free Hair !

Coconut oil nourishes your hair, while lemon juice helps to treat dandruff at home without using harmful chemicals. Heat 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and mix it with an equal amount of lemon juice. Massage your scalp with this mixture for 20 minutes and rinse with shampoo.
