We are in group...not a natural animal lover and Iam fine with it but how to manage the situation without them knowing this tuff
the persistent fear of an object or situation exposure to the feared object provokes an immediate anxiety response adult patients recognize that the fear is excessive, unreasonable or irrational (this is not always the case with children) exposure to the feared object is most often avoided altogether or is endured with dread the fear interferes significantly with daily activities (social, familial, occupational, etc.) anxiety, panic attacks or avoidance cannot be accounted for by another mental disorder Above from Wiki.
You have to try interacting with them more. (What do we call the fear in them, when someone screams seeing them)
Phobias and Fears: Symptoms, Treatment, and Self-Help for Phobias and Fears Read this, it has enough information for your problem. Graded exposure is what you need, but if need help, read this site article before deciding. Good luck!
Same here, I'd like to know too but I think no amount of therapy can help get past my fear of stray dogs.
Sorry to digress, Lakshmi. Old habits die hard you know. My point is just this. If Cynophobia is fear of dogs, then if someone is very sure of a dog's behaviour must be Cynosure but this word means something totally different. I must share something here with you. I hardly go to my first daughter's house. Don't get me wrong. I have excellent relationship with her and her hubby. But their huge St.Bernard scares the wit out of me which you call as cynophobia. When I enter their house, this fellow rests both his feet on my shoulders and stares hard at me. I become stiff like a lifeless pole and my daughter tells me, 'Daddy, don't irritate him by standing like that. He is trying to be friendly and you act lifeless!' Earlier she had a Pomeranian. Once I playfully blew air on its face and it bit my nose! When going in a car, it would love to put its face out through the window and enjoy the wind blowing on its face. So I took it for granted that this dog loved air on its face and blew on its face. The result was a bleeding nose! Stray dogs are worse. One day they will be peacefully resting on the road where I go for my walk. Suddenly they start following me for no reason. As I increase my speed, they let out a strange noise while increasing their speed too! This will go on for a while until they find someone more interesting to chase! Sri
@Rihana, join the club. wish there was an easy do's-don'ts on this subject. It's high time I do something about this extreme fear
@ashima10, you too? I know it is so hard to avoid them. especially where I live except for my own home they are everywhere including my workplace.
