this would be quite informative.. found on web.

check your cosmetics true date of manufacturing and expiry date by visiting checkcosmetic.net or cosmeticswizard.net

checkcosmetic.net gives you exact details as for how many more days that particular product can be used

    here goes the read......:thumbsup

    Check your cosmetics!

It is well known that using expired cosmetics can result in quite sad consequences: skin irritation, dermatitis, allergic reactions and infection. This can be caused by microorganisms and dirt which can get into the cosmetic product once it has been opened, or due to using the product after specified “Use by” date.
Cosmetic products which shelf life is less than 30 months must be marked with “Best before” date according to common regulations in the most of the countries. Such products can no longer meet safety requirements as soon as expiry date has been passed. It’s not mandatory to have such labeling for the cosmetic products which shelf life exceeds 30 months. Most of such products should not be harmful even after the expiration; but they can change smell, color, texture or simply become useless. Purchasing such expired product could mean wasted money.
How can this be avoided? It looks so easy: you just need to find the expiration date or “Period After Opening” sign on the cosmetic product packaging. Unfortunately, cosmetics manufacturers eventually do not indicate the production or expiration date in the clear, human-readable form. Instead, a product is marked with a batch code or lot number, which is convenient to the manufacturer, but does not provide any information to product consumer. Even worse, some online shops remove any additional labels which contain information about the country where the product was manufactured as well as expiration date.
    Cosmetic calculator

Cosmetic calculator helps you to determine the manufacture date of cosmetics or perfume by the batch code or lot number, and provides information about product shelf life.
This can be useful not only for checking the contents of your own cosmetics bag; both online and offline stores eventually try to sale expired (or almost expired) cosmetics with various discounts.
Please notice that the given shelf life is general and not applicable for all of the products. You should carefully read the recommendations for each particular product (provided directly on the container or printed on the packaging) and follow them.
    What is batch code?

The code which enables manufacturers or suppliers to identify the batch in which the product was manufactured must be marked on both the primary container and outer packaging. If the product is not made in a batch, then the code should enable the date and place of manufacture to be identified.
Where can I find the code?

The code is usually printed directly on the bottom of the container or somewhere near it; you can also try to find it on the product packaging.

    dear laxmi,
may be the code u have have mentioned is wrong(i mean you have not correct with the code). the code you have mentioned is the sales code. IS it the number below barcode.pls recheck. :bonk.

if it is the number below barcode. then its not the batch code for sure,

for example i will give u the code of my product GArnier and the code is 36G904.

The code is usually printed directly on the bottom of the container or somewhere near it; you can also try to find it on the product packaging.
A couple of examples, Bourjois and Guerlain batch codes:
