Hi, We just bought Induction Stove. How long we should keep cooker in the induction stove? Should we set timer? If so how long and what about the temparature?
It is assumed that you are using a pressure cooker. Once the operating pressure is reached the temperature inside is automatically fixed. The time for cooking then depends on what is being cooked. If rice is cooked only 3 minutes are needed at 1 bar pressure, which is the normal working pressure of Indian pressure cookers. Dal may need 5 minutes and various beans may need somewhat longer. The time taken for the cooker to reach pressure will depend on the total amount of food inside the cooker. After pressure is reached, the time to cook is independent of the amount of food. Another important thing to remember is that once pressure is reached power should be reduced to just maintain the pressure. Any excess power is wasted as steam escaping from the valve. This is because the temperature is automatically fixed by pressure alone. It is best to start with full power, wait till the operating pressure is reached as indicated by the hissing of the valve, reduce the power to , say, 800 watts and wait for 3 to 7 minutes depending on what is cooked before switching off. If the same quantity is cooked regularly, the timer can be set suitably. Even then, power reduction will have to be done manually. Arunadhri
